alright,i'm trying to do work to my bike but some of the bolts require specific torque loads. i can't find a torque wrench for in/lbs. for the life of me. i've been to sears, home depot, ace hardware, local bike shops, and nothing. i can only find auto torque wrenches that are the size of baseball bats.
anyone know where i can find the one i need? thanks in advance.

12 inches is one foot , convert the torque specs to decimal's and your good to go, I use a big wrench on all my bikes and the linkage of my 7 point and havent had any problems

Built a few bikes, repair my own bikes, never felt I need to use a torque wrench on any part but my Hopey damper. Important because that is how you set up headset tightness.

We had another thread a just like this month or so ago. It had info on ft. pound and in. pound wrenches and when you might find them.
Here's the link: Torque Wrenchin'

I have the following smaller Craftsman torque wrench which is calibrated in in-lb. I needed it since I was running into bolt torques less than 20 ft-lb (240 in-lb) on my motorcycles. I don't recall paying $80 but it's still better than stripping treads any day.
Craftsman Torque Wrench, 3/8 in. Drive Sears item# 00944593000 Mfr. model# 44593 http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...=torque+wrench |

When I first bought my Monkey-lite carbon fiber bars, I thought that a torque wrench was required for them. I went to two very reputable shops here in OC and the mechanics that I talked to both said the same thing "screw it down 'till it hits the bar, then a 1/4 turn more." Wow. So that's what I do.
Just sayin'

You can pick up a cheapie at Harbor Freight. Most torque wrenches I've seen that measure in lbs are 1/4" drive.
I would try to avoid torque values that are near the high or low limits of the wrench to increase your chance of a accurate measurement. As mentioned above, if you have a torque wrench that measures in ft lbs just divide the torque value you want by 12.

thanks for the replies. i'm really looking for a mini torque wrench. i remember using them in my motorcycles engine classes back in high school. they were made by snap-on but no bigger than the size of my hand. i know i would cry if i saw the price of that snap-on torque wrench. i would prefer one that i can carry with my on my rides.

Park tools has the torque wrench you are looking for. It's small and easy to use. Go to there website and look for a dealer in your area. Thats what I did.
