Default Fox Forx Problem

I picked up a Vanilla 130R Not sure the year maybe 05 or 06. The problem is when I push down on the fork it feels very springy and dry. On top of that, the rebound does not seem to be working at all. I also hear a little squeel noise. Sounds to me like the spring is rubbing on the sanction tube.

Question = Will an oil change and cleaning bring this fork back to good working condition? Also, what is up with the rebound?

Externally the fork looks good. No scratches on the sanction tubes, and the wipers,( aside from being dirty) look good.

I have great mechanical skills and have no problem tackling it myself. It would just be nice to know what to do before I dig into it. Yes I could drop it off at my LBS and spend the $$$ to overhaul it but that's no fun..

Sounds like it could be rubbing... oil or not.... I could be wrong.... either way if you insist on doing it yourself, Id crack it open and do a full overhaul regardless....

Not sure about the rebound to be honest and as far as the rubbing goes, it *might* be the ends of the springs are not parallel and may cause a slight bow in the spring when almost fully compressed.... or could be the ends of the spring are not seated correctly inside the fork...

I dont know the break down of the internals but I know when I used to work for a spring maker, we had a small batch of moto springs that experienced the rubbing inside the stanction... This might be a similar issue.

I would get on Fox's site and grab their tech docs and look through it then maybe break it down and see if you can trouble shoot it...

If not, call Push Industries or maybe Garage Works in Irvine and see if they can diagnose it.

sounds to me like the damper is probably low on oil. the fork probably just needs an overhaul.

i suggest doing new seals and oil. i think The Path can do that work...

I have a Vanilla R (2007 140mm) that PUSH industries rebuilt after 6 months of beating on it. It was like a new and different fork! Worth it, heck yeah!
