Congratulations on the new bike. If the bike were mine, the first upgrade I would make would be the fork! 1) The ideal (do-all) fork for an MKIII is 140mm (not 120mm)! I say this more for geometry reasons than for travel reasons. 2) The forks overall performance features are just OK. Save your money, ride the fork into the ground and upgrade to a better fork!

As far as frames breaking- they all break! Many develop hairline cracks. I am sure some of us are riding bikes that have a few cracks- and don't even know it! Hint.. Hint.. Check your frames!

P.S.- If you have a 20mm front wheel lying around, I have a new fork I would be willing to sell you. Apexman has a Pike Coil he would let go for a fair price. The Pike Air is a good choice.... as are a dozen other forks!

Hope our paths cross real soon!

Regarding your next bike purchase... if the shop doesn't know what kind of fork you are buying, go somewhere else.

That's frightening.

Rode with him today, and it looked to me like the bike was working out. Dino, can you show him how to engage the IH autopilot feature?

Two simple ways to engage the IH autopilot feature:
1) All DW-Link bikes are shipped with *On-Star.*
Check owners manual regarding activation/registration.

2) If the bike is near a computer:
* Place a FIREWIRE cable anywhere on the frame
* After doing so, type www.ironhorse.com
* Allow 30 seconds for the necessary downloads
* That's about it!

Note: The bikes built-in GPS and wireless internet will take care of any (and all) future software updates!

Eh, I don't expect sales people to know details about anything anymore. It's like asking a tech question to a car salesman. All he knows is how many cup holders it has.

Mine was an 06 leftover. It's still running the null modem cable legacy interface. Which is cool with me cuz my atari 2600 hooks right up

Check the thread on bike shops here on STR for a rundown of places where they can tell one fork from another. Some of them even carry cup holders too

Some of these salesman are idiots! I'm telling you the bike is equipped with *OnStar* as well as a Firewire/USB port.

My suggestion: Ride the bike "as-is." I'll take care of it. Congratulations! You made a fine choice!

Thanks for the praise. She did good today on the trail. I was rolling through stuff much faster than I could have with my hardtail and catching bigger air so I'm happy

I rode with you a couple times during today's ride. It looks like you and that new bike are going to get along just fine. Keep riding...
