A friend of mine is rebuilding his bike and getting rid of rusted bolts. He wants to replace them with titanium fasteners, but, not surprisingly, he can't find them at local bike shops. Where do y'all get titanium bike bolts?
A google search yields too many results to be helpful. Thanks.

You mentioned that bike shops here don't carry bolts. However, in Japan, many bike shops carry a large selection of titanium bolts - for good prices, too.

Thanks guys. I can't imagine that Ti bolts would save a whole lot of weight, but I guess they do resist corrosion in contact with steel, so that's nice.

I don't know about the characteristics between ti and steel, but ti and aluminum can be a problem. These two metals do not play nicely together. Make sure to use an anti-seize compound to prevent the bolts from binding.

actually, you can save a decent amount of weight by swapping out fasteners for Ti or Aluminum. weightweenies has a nice breakdown of that here:
http://weightweenies.starbike.com/articles.php?ID=16 total possible weight savings = 150g, thats a full third of a pound. of course, you'll pay a mint to get that, but for some people its worth it |

We've been working on a source for ti bolts.
We may have a few here and there, but no reall selection of ti bolts. Have any of you guys used ti bolts? How was the success? I have has so so luck, with more issues than steel bolts. The weight savings look good. |
