Default Looking to build...

I am a serious newb to building bikes, in fact if it wasn't for this forum I might not even be thinking of doing it. I have an 03 Bullit frame just sitting and collecting dust so right now I'm looking for a fork on ebay. First question is this, I keep seeing a width of 1 1/8" being shown. I'm assuing that this is the headtube width. Also is the standard width...I believe the 1.5 is the more abnormal width right?

The second question is more of which is better question. I've found a Marzochi AM 2 and a Rockshox Domain for around what I have budgeted for a fork. Both are 07. Any ideas. I'd be setting the bike up for more of freeride thang. Just curious if either of these would work. I had a Psylo on it before I blew that fork out and replaced it with a Tora when I swapped parts to the Chameleon.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you might be able to provide.

1 1/8" is the standard size, headsets will be in this size as well. But when in doubt, pull out the ruller. While you're at it, measure the bottom bracket width so you'll know that width. That'll help when putting your crankset in, spacers may be needed.

Thanks for confirming that. One more question that just popped into my head. How much steerer tube should you ideally be looking for in a used fork. Obviously I need to measure the headtube but how much above and (if needed) below should I try for? Thanks

You need enough for the headset stack and the stem. the stem should grab at least 3/4 of steerer. Then if you want to put spacers, add that. The longer the better, you can always cut it.
