Default Clicking cassette

The cassette makes really loud clicking noises when I'm just coasting but the minute I pedal the clicking noises disappear. Is this normal?

does it look like the chain is physically moving every time it clicks? then it's the deralleur, but you need to be pedaling to have this happen...

is the wheel spinning and the cahin not? then it's a freewheel.

maybe i should start a new thread on this, but is it the type of rachet system that makes one louder than another?

I have Kings on three bikes. They all are quiter than most hubs.

If my hub was making a different noise I would be tearing it apart to see what was going on, I have seen hubs break and seize on the trail, most have been WTB's and XT's...bummer carrying your bike out.

That can be dangerous in some neighborhoods to be false advertising...

A loud hub is a good thing. It let's the rider in front of you know when you are not pedaling.

I can't stand the sound of I9s for some reason. Hopes and Hadleys are loud too, but they have a different pitch or sound and thus don't bother me.

I have a secret sauce made of white lithium grease and STP that I like for hubs. It's light enough viscosity where it doesn't inhibit the pawls from moving, but it silences them so you'll be riding through the hills quieter than a Shaolin priest.
