Default gona race my mtn bike on road...need some conversion tips!!

I'm gona do the Triathlon in Newport this May. I do not own a road and dont really know anyone who does and its too expensive to demo or rent.

Plus I like my bike and I'm used to it.

So the frame is an Intene Tracer with a lockout in the rear.

The only thing I've done so far is put on light flat bars.
Maybe a low rise stem?

I'll obvisouly get slicks for the tires....any recommendations?

What else can you suggest for me!!!!

Thanx heres a pic so you know what your working with?

I think the only real detriment will be the limit of your big ring. The guys running 52 or 53 teeth will have a big advantage.

Ya i know what you mean... So you do have any ideas of getting a hold of a road bike?

But, I just dont want to race on it, I'd like to train on it and get used to it.

thanx

I have a classic Bianchi you're welcome to. It's got some pretty agressive gearing for speed and I'm still running sew-ups which roll really smooth.

If you're interested, all I need to do is refresh the glue on the rims and you're good to go.

if your staying with your bike, get a bigger ring and put lots of air in your shock/fork. maybe grab some skinny wheels?

maybe get some drops and road stem.

weight is probably going to be the biggest problem.

Are you planning on getting serious about triathlons? You really should look into getting a road bike to train on. It is going to be hard to compete seriously on a mountain bike considering the weight and gearing. I've been considering selling my road bike. I have an '03 Scattante CFR, carbon fiber frame (56cm) sweet bike but just don't ride it enough.....the thing is like brand new. PM me if you're interested.

It also has the clip on aero bars. Perfect for tri's and road training.

I'm sure rob would give you a really good deal. I can vouch for the bike being in primo condition, he takes good care of all 5 of his bikes.
