I was out riding a few weeks ago and I developed a skip in the drivetrain. After the ride, I took a look at the chain and noticed that one link was sticking pretty badly. I thought, at the time, that I just needed to remove the chain, clean it, re-lube and be off.
Didn't work. Either I bashed the chain (and drivetrain) into something and didn't realize or I have a bad link. The chain and cassette have less than 50 miles on them and they were both changed at the same time, so wear patterns aren't the issue. My question is this: Does it make a difference if I were to run two Powerlinks in the same chain? Setup is pretty standard (LX crankset, SRAM 9spd cassette, XT R.DR) HELP>>>>

A guy at the bike store told me that some people have many power links in their chains. With 50 miles on it, I don't see the harm in throwing in another link.
I think it *might* cause skipping problems if you had 1500 miles on the chain and put in a new link. |

I'd just buy a new one. http://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...9Sp+Chain.aspx
Apparently some people really hate this chain. I've never had problems with it myself.

Sorry to somewhat derail this thread but I've heard one can run a shimano chain with a SRAM powerlink. I've also heard no. Who has personal experience with this. (no second-hand info please)

yes, i have done this on many occasions. just be sure that everything is 9spd. not 8 or 10. only have had troubles with the sram 10spd in anything but sram. and wippermans are never labeled so well, can get confusing sometimes when figuring out what to use with campy/shimano chaings. |

My LBS recommends Sram over Shimano for that reason, they say the Shimano's stick more and my experience has been the same, with the exception of the Dura Ace.
