...whow, say that 10 times fast... don't know why I put "motor" in the title...
Ok, I'm at work so I gotta make it fast: I just got my Jenson order which included the 2008 Fox Talas 32 RLC. It has a post mount setup and it seems as though my OG/OE Deore (BR-M555) front disc brake is not post mount. ![]() Anyone know if an adapter exists for this? I was looking online at some but have no idea what's what. BTW, the re-born Rocky Mountain ETSX-70 is shaping up to be one sweet rig. Pics will come in time.... |

i'm pretty sure you can buy new brake adaptors that convert from tab mounts to post mounts

If the br-m555 is the 4 piston brake you can buy an adapter from universal cycles, is this what it looks like? This is what the adapter looks like for my 4 piston for an 8 inch rotor on the post mount 888. Heres the link for universal cycles, http://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...69&category=31
If they dont have it call shimano directly, they are really helpful and should have whatever adapter you need. |

Brief update in case anyone else ever encounters similar prob-
The inital adapter didn't work, so I "rush ordered" another adapter and rotor from Jenson that they "promised" would work. Alas, it didn't work either. Called Shimano (admittedly should have done this first ) and they also "promised" that yet another adapter would work (Y81737000) but with a 180 mm rotor. Neither item seemed very easily available in a reasonable time frame in this corner of the world...![]() I started thinking about it --those old brakes were 3-4ish years old (lots of hard riding too) and had NEVER been serviced. Being a bit of a computer dork, the analogy came to mind that I was trying to install the "latest and greatest microsoft operating system" on an old-school, worn-out computer. It is possible, but chances are you will need to upgrade/change all sorts of stuff and the performance just won't be there. And it'll be a "band-aid" solution and you'll be upgrading sooner than later whether you like it or not.![]() Long story short I purchased a set of 2007 Avid Juicy 7's from BlueSkyCycling online. Went with 160 mm rotors for now. Figured I can upgrade to a bigger rotor later. Let's just hope I don't need another adapter....Man, I just wanna ride my bike! ![]() |
