I just swtiched to SRAM X9 after around 10 years (MTB and Road) and I love it.

Oh and jsut to throw another spanner into the SRAM works - ask any bike shop how many X0's rear mechs they've had in with the carbon linkage snapped off.

When they first came out,they had problems with the XO rear der. breaking.Mine broke after about a year,Sram replaced it under warranty no questions asked.It's been 1500mi.and about a year in with the replacement,and no problems whatsoever.

you crazy afraid of cleaning freaks. Allow me to give you the best and easiest way to clean your drive train.

Put you rig on a rake, take an old spoke in hand, spin the cranks and shove the spoke in between the rear cogs. It fits perfectly and works quickly.

Then, with spoke in hand and chain still moving, use the same spoke to scrape the crap off the RD cogs.

Please save the praise. just send money.

SRAM, baby. The shifting is crisp and delicious. Like a cold beer on a hot summer day. I have 4 bikes and only one of them still has a Shimano drivetrain.
And when it goes, i'll be replacing it with SRAM. but stick to the X9 stuff. The X0 is awesome but I don't think its noticeably better than the X9 for the price.

That's actually the thing I'm having the most trouble with. I barely even enjoy the moto/quad stuff. I never did that sort of stuff until I met my wife. She grew up with her family always doing it, so I started when I met her 8 years ago. My mother-in-law bought me a quad last year, so I sort of feel obligated to ride it. I only ride quads a few times a year and honestly, if I never rode one again it wouldn't bother me.

I'm just pissed I got hurt doing something that isn't even a passion of mine.

Oh well. Rant over. Sorry for the thread hijack.

My prediction was true that most would prefer SRAM. As soon as they do a low-normal, I'll give them a shot.

My experience with Sram, is that when using a full drivetrain, consisting completely of Sram parts (cassette, chain, etc.) you do experience a bit more noise, somewhat similar to a brand new Campy road drivetrain. But, once the drivetrain is broken in, that goes away quick. Shimano starts off silky smooth, and stays that way. However, I still belive Sram has the Bling factor over Shimano wiht it's drivetrain components. Plus, if you are a cross chain commando like myself, you can opt for the lighter gripshift shifters, asd have the ability to trim your front derr.

In the end, it's all good in my opinion, and in the opinion of many others. I once had a full deore bike, that never went out of adjustment, and never broke a single component in four plus years of thrashing!

I love my SRAM X9 stuff. I'll probably never go back to Shimano, the 1:1 ratio shifting is the difference maker, much crisper shifts. I'm not even sure an X0 upgrade is worth it with the X9 stuff being so good.

I love my Mom-in-law. Sure she can be annoying at times, and she hasn't bought me a quad yet, but for my b-day I got 100 bucks at REI, and when my wife said we needed extra $$$ so she could stay home with the kid, the mom-in-law sent a check right away. And, wthout getting political, we see eye-to-eye (unlike my real mother).

to me it comes down to personal preference...they are both quality parts...and I also agree an upgrade just to upgrade is like tossing money out the window...

go with the flow. Going to The Path tomorrow to pick up some parts for a wheel build to replace the set I purchased less than a month ago

I started using grip shift 8 spd and never went back. Now I just put Sram Force on by road bike and love it. My other bikes are dura ace 9 spd and will switch to Froce next year on my "cross bike.
