Oooo....nice. I am going to be building a ~500 lumen, 4 LED, 8 watt system this week if my freakin' parts ever arrive. That Lupine sets the bar nice and high. If I get good at building MTB lights that would be a fun target.

Without researching the conversion from watts, lumens, candlepower, etc. It sounds like this would make a great moto light where one can tap into the bikes electrical system. 8" HID's are about the same price without a battery.

I'm not an EE, but I don't see much in the way of cooling heat sinks/fins as compared to current LED lights that are much lesser wattage (i.e. TriNewt, Stella, 600L).

TriNewt is 486 Lumens. Pretty close. Though I assume you are doing yours to save $$?

I dont think Niterider lists the lumen rating for their HID's. Ive tried finding that info for mine with no luck.
Maybe put in a call.

L&M ARC is 675 lumens. Just buy two HID lights (one helmet, one handlebar) and save yourself some money.

You save money up front with hid's but they end up costing more down the line replacing lamps at $100 a pop. Led's are the way to go.

I believe the HID's run around 350-400, but I could be wrong.

That and for the fun of building stuff.

When all is said and done, this light will probably cost me all of $75, if that. At $400 for the TriNewt, I have to at least try.

bike stuff is so over priced if you ask me.

Heck, this unit for an off road car cost ~500.00.

I agree... having been through three HID bulbs, and just blew another one tonight, I could have had a new light. Well, actually, I have a Trinewt on a UPS truck headed in my direction right now. My HID..... R.I.P.
