haha wth is warbling?
I've always had a strange noise coming from my brakes, but people have assured me it normal although my rotors are not warped, and the caliper is properly aligned. ![]()

the warble is somewhat 'normal' choc. i had it with my juicy 5's. do some searching on the forums here. steppie posted a pretty good reply in regards to it. i didnt do too much to make it go away, but it eventually did over time.

my juicy 5's on my juliana warbled like a turkey something fierce! i ended up having to replace the pads and the calipers. the guys at the bike shop said that they'd had problems with some of the brakes and avid admitted that there were problems. at least, that's what i was told. i haven't had any problems with my juicy 7's on the stumpjumper until recently, but it typically only happens after i've been riding for awhile and/or i ride on the brakes too hard.

same noise comes from Linda's Juicy 5s, but mostly from the rear caliper. I too have been assured that this is normal, though it annoys the hell out of me when I am riding next to her. I think a pad adjustment feature like that of the Juicy 7s would fix this.

I'm not positive on this, but there was a problem with the Avid Paragon rotors a few years ago. Something about the alignment being goofed up or something. I changed over to the Clean Sweep Rotors and never had a problem with the turkey warbling again.

Avid makes a few different rotor shapes. The clean sweep rotors (round not wavy) run the quitest.
The juicy 5s come stock with metalic pads. If you switch to organic, you will have less overheating, and less squeel in genereal. They organic pads make less noise in general. Some really chronic brake noise starts with overheating the brake. You will see discoloration on the rotor if this is the case. On accasion one piston sticks, and will not push or retract evenly. This can cause noise while applying the brake. I think that this is the "known issue" mentioned earlier in this thread. I have known Avid brakes to have this defect, but it is rare. This problem is not limited to Avid. I have seen other brands have this issue. In fact, Sram is quicker than most companys to just take responsibilty right or wrong. Contamination can definetely cause noise. Sometimes you can even pick contaminants up in a mud puddle. more often it is misdirected chain lube, or brake fluid. Once contaminated, you will pretty much have to replace the pads, and in some cases the rotor too. A little "warbling" under specific conditions is pretty std. Sqeeling like a stuck pig all of the time is not. |

Don't worry the sound will go away after Thanksgiving.
It sometimes helps to take the pads out and sand them down a bit. ![]()

I was having an issue with squealing, but baked the pads and no more problems since then. 450 degrees for 20 minutes seemed to work for me.

Pain Freak: thanks for the tip, i pulled out both the front and rear pads and popped them into the family toaster oven baked with love for 20 mins at 450 and popped them back into the calipers and viola...solved the noise. PLUS, for some reason (mind you the pads were cool) my front brake levers are super stiff now...makes me want to rebleed my rears
