Default 29er fork/wheel problem

I've been having a blast on my Kona Unit 2-9 SS. However, I've noticed a problem with the front wheel & I'm not sure if the cause is the wheel itself, my brake, the fork, the skewer or the hub. I am running the stock Sun Rims, stock skewer & stock hub.

When I put the front wheel on & tighten the skewer, the wheel fits very true. However, when I hop on to ride it down the street & give it a little shake-down ride, I like to jump on the brakes to make sure they are dialed in.

When I SERIOUSLY squeeze the front brake (harder than I would ever really do while riding) the front wheel tends to jump out of the fork drop-outs (Kona's P2 rigid fork) and the wheel is left a bit cock-eyed.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Luckily, it has never happened out on the trails (because I would never squeeze THAT hard while riding). In fact, the bike has been like a dream come true out on the trails.

I'm not sure if the issue is:

-Bad/cheap drop-outs on the fork
-Cheap skewers
-loose hub
-?? something else I haven't considered

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

how tight is the skewer? is the "nut" end stripped? (had this issue on an old cheap skewer as well) is there too much paint on the dropouts to make a good contact?

that could suck* if your front wheel came out.

*major understatement

a take-off set from The Path. The one thing I can say is that the loose bearing hub is dry. I packed mine with grease before it hit the trail.

I would start there.......

That is way scary...are you using disk brakes? does that fork have lawyers tabs?

If I had a fork do that I would ditch the fork or run a through bolt.

Turns out it was just a cheap skewer. I took it down to Banning's here in Fullerton and they had me back out riding in 2 minutes.

Not saying that a carbon fork wouldn't be a nice *future* upgrade, but the bike got me around Peter's Canyon like a dream come true today for the newbie ride.

And BandMan got me up Big Red on it

Yeah, yeah...in all fairness, I've never had this problem with my full suspension 26" Kona.

A lil variety never hurt anyone, right?

Hey there, you must be the guy that asked about the wheel coming loose while braking last Thursday at Fullerton. That was me with the Voodoo. Glad to hear you got it all figured out.
