Question Avid Juicy Bleed Tips

Picked up a used set of Juicy 7’s (Thanks HUGH). Went to Avid’s website and downloaded the bleeding instructions. My Hopes are way easy and the Avid’s look like a hassle. Syringes that screw into the caliper and lever, fill them up half way, clamp un- clamp...... repeat 5 to 7 times.

My Hopes are a breeze…….Make sure the reservoir is full and pump the lever until all the air comes out via the caliper. Close valve and go ride.

Any tips?

Ps. Any tips besides taking it to the LBS

The bleed kit comes with instructions that are easy to understand. I'd assume the website instructions are the same. I've been using and bleeding Hayes brakes for many years, so it was strange bleeding a different setup. I recently had to bleed four sets of Juicy 7 brakes. I followed the instructions carefully, and all of them worked out very well.

TIP: Find the steps only for bleeding (there are many other procedures), and enlarge the page. Highlight key things that you may think you'll miss while you're doing the job. Have the instructions taped to a wall, or somewhere they are visible during the entire procedure. That could really help you from doing steps incorrectly or out of order.

I read the instructions once then did my own thing. Never had a problem.
I can help you out this weekend if you need it. Or call me and I can give you the basic run down.

The steps just seem really cumbersome

After bleeding Hayes brakes, I also thought it was a bizarre process, but it is a good one that has benefits most other bleeding systems don't have.

I have a new Avid Bleed Kit for sale here. Bike Stuff Avid bleed kits are the best out there and also work with Formula Brakes and I have used Avid bleed kits on Hayes brakes. I don't follow Avids directions and have not had any problems with bleeding my Avid Brakes.

I take the caliper off the bike and use a spacer in between the pads. I get the brake line to hang straight down as posible...hook up the syringes push fuild from the bottom first then back through from the top....making sure to not push air back in. Close the clamps....pump the lever a few times softly repeat until I see no more air bubbles. I tap on caliper, lines and lever to help the small bubbles move up and into the upper syringe. If you have been using the brakes before the bleed it cavitates and you will have a hard time getting those tiny bubbles out.

compared to some cars.... Avid Juicy's are heaven to bleed...

and with the syringe, you get to pull the trapped air bubbles out of the fluid! (the ones you cant see! they are suspended in the fluid, and LEAD TO BRAKE SQUISHINESS)

When I first saw the bled kit I though it was going to be very difficult. But after reading the manual and doing it I can say it was very easy.

Default Ok

got those suckers bled and took them for a ride last night. The directions could use some work but after reading them and doing a few things wrongit was easy. Now I can do it in about 10 min from start to finish.

The only other "hydro" disk brakes I can compare them to are XTR's (sons bike) and Hope.

Setting up the Avids is way easier but the Hopes feel way better.

Thanks again!

My Avids felt good after they were initially bled, but then they really felt good after riding them for a while.

For so many years I've been a die-hard Hayes person, but I'm so over those now.

if you like the Avids you should try the Hopes

Pain in the a$$ to set-up but work fantastic.

I hear you on the Hayes. Back in the day stuck with Avid Mechanicals because the Hayes stuff was.....
