Default So my right gear shift broke down rocket...

and it's a deore. I'm just changing the shifter, not the deraileur. Anyone have suggestions? Are those SRAM twist things a good way to go? Any help is appreciated.

P.S. I finished my ride, but since we parked up at MILF park, I was limited to a low gear and granny ring. Not being the single speed fixie athlete, I had to hike it up the major hills. I must say, though, being in one gear for the ride was fun up small hills. I almost understand you SS'ers... almost, but not quite.

we're a hard bunch to understand check w/ Tha Path- they might (no promises) have just the replacement deore shifter you need.

as an aside, if the bike's got lots of miles on it, you might consider changing out cables as well while you're at it.

2nd question: how'd you break a shifter coming down rockit? just curious

Sram Attack Twisties are pretty durable but they will probably be a special order through your LBS as there isn't much demand for them. Typically Deore, and LX are durable, budget oriented shifters. You might try another Deore or maybe an LX.

Remember that if you want to try any of SRAMs shifters they must be the Attack, Centera, MRX or TRX models to match Shimano's actuation ratio of your rear derailler

The new LX pods have the 2 way release option so you can shift SRAM or Shimano trigger style but with the Shimano rear dérailleur. We are talking 9 spd right?

yup, it's a 9 speed.

Just a 1/4 way down, the whole bottom just popped off. It seems that that trail will rattle anything that's loose off. It makes me think of changing the front fork, too. I've a GF Cake 3 and it's only about 6 months old. Seems like the ride could be more butter. Maybe that fork (manitou axel) is starting to freeze up. I thought the ride was smoother in June...

Thanks for the advice on the shifter!

Yeah the Axel isn't much more then an entry level fork. You should get rid of that "rattling", by putting a descent fork on there.

I used to have an Axel on my Specialized. Damn thing was worthless! After a couple of fully rides swapped it out for a Marzzochi fork.

Love my grip shift. Had a 2nd generation 7speed set that lasted 12 years. Replaced them last year with 9 speed version. Found them at Laguna Hills Performance.

Checkout Pricepoint,

They a bunch of older SRAM twisters. I've been thinking of going that direction myself for the FD. I'm tired of getting chain run in certain gear combos.

Thanks again for the advice. I went with the SRAM Attack Shorties. Carl at the Path set me up and I get the bike back tomorrow. He mentioned the cables, too, so I went with that as well.

I got a look at the take off wall. What a cool bike shop feature! But what really had me going was the fork display. Looks like I'll be saving to upgrade. I drove from the HB to go there, but it was worth it.
