it opens a list which shows diferent things with a number saying dowloaded. If I understand it right it means that it was downloaded that many times. I'm right or not

You're right.

For pictures . . . everytime it loads in someone's browser, it counts as a download. Other files (zip, exe, etc), need to be actually downloaded and saved to be counted as a download.
