Default Thread Prefixes

So a long time ago I said this was coming and it finally came. In certain forums (just Trail Talk and Marketplace right now) you'll be able to select a prefix from a drop down menu when creating a new thread.

As you can see I already ran some database queries to modify threads starting with RR, FS, WTB to include the prefix.

Why?

This will help keep things organized. Searches can now be done by prefix. Also, it'll allow me to code pages such as "for sale ads", "popular ride reports", etc.

Question for you

Should it just be "RR", "FS", "WTB", etc or spelled out "Ride Report", "For Sale", "want to buy", etc? Check the screenshot for how it looks with just the acronym.

Prefix Suggestions

Can you think of other helpful prefixes for certain forums? Currently there are these...

Trail Talk
  • RR
Marketplace
  • FS
  • WTB
  • FT (for trade)
Website Discussion
  • Request
  • New Feature
  • Help

I think it looks better spelled out.

I think they should be spelled out. "FS" in Marketplace could easily be mistaken for "Full Suspension".

Except "RR" in the Trail Talk forum. That's been used for awhile now and I think we are all used to it.

perhaps a legend/glossary of commonly used abreviations could work to help noobies differentiate the meanings...now, how to direct one to the legend/glossary of terms is another functionality issue.

personally i like the "RR" for Ride Report or the "FS" meaning For Sale. i can see how 'fs' could be confused with full suspension...maybe in the glossary of terms Full Suspension can be labeled as 'f/s' perhaps.

Just a Hijack about something else, is there a way to restrict the size of a signature, at the end of your post. Some are getting extremly large & often out size the content of the post it's self making for a lot of scrolling to view some threads. It also seems to be something that could be taken advantage of for advertising purposes. Love everything about the site, & working with SQL based web applications myself, I appricate the amount of time you put into this. Thanks

Thanks - have actually been thinking about limiting the signatures and font sizes/colors.

What work do you do? SQL server as in MSFT?
