No way. I really don't think it's worth it.
Less ads? There usually only one that I always see. More PM space? I think if I have that many people PM'ing me I will just give out a special email address just for STR people to reach me. Do people other than Moderators really spend that much time PM'ing or recieving PM's to where they would need 1,500 PM space. I just can't imagine someone would. seriously.... I'm all about helping out the community but even though it may be a bigger server and all, it's starting to sound like ridemonkey or something. Heck even MTBR doesn't have a special subscription. I just recently joined STR, but with all the MTB forums out there it's not worth it to ME. Just my 3 cents. Especially to get the same results with the free version here on STR. NOW if I got like 20 different pop-ups everytime I opened a link, then yes I would think about it. Just me I guess.... |

It's really not as much for the "extra stuff" as it is for just giving back to a medium that has given something to a lot of us. You can't put a price tag on great experiences, but if this little donation helps keep those experiences coming, then my money is there. I've gotten something from STR in the short time I've been active on the site and this is the least I can do to give back. If you haven't gotten anything from STR then there's no reason for you to support it. Be well. |

Skate - George didn't require it for anything. He said totally optional. I don't need 1500 PMs, and like you don't notice the ads either. Many other MTB forums (I can think of one that starts with mtb) have way more loud and front and center advertising all over the screen.
It's not really about getting the PM space or removing ads for me. I enjoy the site, and would like to continue to contribute what I can. If it costs a little to do that, it's okay with me. I don't think George meant it as something to make anyone feel they needed to justify it one way or the other. Contribute if you can and want to, or just contribute by posting rides, reports, and helping out other riders.

skate, that's fine and like I said it's completely optional. You're still more than welcome to hang out here.
If you look at it from a purely "what do I get on top of what's free?" perspective then yes, it probably doesn't seem like it's worth it. But if you knew how much time and effort has been and continues to be poured into STR you might see it as "how can I support this?" During the redesigns I've busted my butt till 2/3am for weeks and still work hard on tuning the server, making improvements, moderating, etc. I do STR on top of my regular job, on top of my full time schooling, and on top of all the other things that come with being a 23 year old. Maybe you haven't experienced it as much because you're new but the site has enriched a lot of people's lives by giving them a place to meet awesome people, communicate, hang out and kill time at work ( ). If you compare that with the cost of a tire like El Salt mentioned or even regular things like a dinner then the subscription to help out doesn't seem like much. You mentioned that you hardly notice the ads - that's because I don't want it to get to the point that MTBR or ridemonkey have gotten to where the uses are bombarded with ads and force the load times to a crawl. I want the people here to enjoy themselves and have fun not only out on the trails but also on the site - which means having a nice looking site with quick loading pages. Nice servers and minimal ads help accomplish that. Anyway, I'm rambling now. Thanks for the comment though as I'm sure some others will think the same.

Ok Godfather it is time to drastically increase the amount of pop ups to like 20 everytime you open a link I think Isomeone already wrote this but this is not about the service for me. It is a way to give back and lighten the load for the man that provides us all that this site has to offer![]() Annual Member here!!!!!!

It's well worth it to me! I was just thinking that without this site I would be posting online and that's pretty much it. STR has that special "Mojo" that draws people together to actually interact, have fun, hang out and most importantly ride (together) whether your just starting or just starting to ride a SS like me (ugh!).

I will pay it, even though I know George is using the money for his midget porn addiction.

i've run forums and had to flip the bill for my sites and believe me it's not cheap...a dedicated or even a shared server SUCKS and when you're spending money to get stickers made to hand them out etc takes it's toll on the ol pocket book...money which i'm sure george would rather spend on his bike
I guess everyone's entitled to their opinion...i'll be contributing very shortly |
