Talking share files!

Annie, this one's for you

There's a new link in the skinny brown navigation bar - Downloads. You can share gps files, maps, manuals, etc through there. A person's added files will show up on their profile also.

Here are the current categories:
Quote:
GPS
Manuals
-Bike Manuals
-Component manuals
-Misc Manuals
Trail Maps
Anyone have suggestions for other categories or sub-categories?

Let me know if there's a type of file that isn't allowed and you would like to add.

Here's the link: http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/downloads.php

It's pretty self-explanatory. One thing that might be a bit obscure is the ability to not only upload your own file but add a link to a file. The link will show up as a file but will download from its original source.

thinking we need a category to share "notes from our mom" with dowloadable letters/excuses for missing work so i can stay home "sick" more often and (and RIDE)

Thumbs up

Nice feature but the link file size requirement is a drag. I linked to my website so I can keep the versions current.

Do you have a specific reason for asking the user for the file size versus reading the file size off the disk or out of the database?

That's an optional thing, if you don't fill it in it simply says "unknown." I was actually thinking of taking that field off completely. Maybe I should

George, I'm not sure if this is supposed to happen or not, but when I go to download a map or file, the page doesn't go back to the original page/menu. It's a message that says slow down, you're downloading too fast. Once I have my file downloaded, the page never changes. Sometimes, it'll say click here if you're not automatically redirected too.

I was using my laptop running Windows XP SP2 and Firefox 1.5.0.11. Ann used the desktop to load the files so it wasn't a cookie thing.

Tested a gpx and a pdf and they downloaded just fine. Don't have a program to test out the gpx but I assume it was ok.

There's a flood protection thing that makes you wait at least 60 seconds between consecutive downloads - it's a security/performance thing.

Did you get that "slow down" page after downloading something else? And did the redirect page just sit there and not redirect you? If so - that itself is a bug and I'll look at it.
