Do you like the new classifieds or want the market place back?
Pretty simple, let's vote on it and post unrelated pics... Yes for the Classifieds, no for pics and old market place. |

dont think i have checked out the classified since my first/last time on the launch date.
gotta get them to front page for me...impulse buy. have sold a few items (small and big an had no issues with way it worked) i have no issues with the nominal charge in classifieds but less than optimal for buyers/sellers now imo. hey, im jus sayin'

the score is kind of lopsided now, but in the beginning it was:
classifieds- 2 marketplace-2 i wonder who those first couple of classifieds fans were??? (hint- i think the mods' votes are the only ones that really count) :beers:

even with the poll, I don't think its going to make a difference
I liked the marketplace, it was more personal, because it answered questions on equipment and also about the person selling the item. The new classifieds is just for sale and thats it. |

I don't mind the new classifieds.. I don't mind paying to post ads either.. It's a couple bucks that goes to STR so I am ok with that.. It's also a targeted local audience which is nice.
I do wish there was a post feature where questions or comments could be posted to the ad.. I also wish there was no charge for items that I wanted to post as free or trade.. Kinda like the "pay it forward" thread.. Perhaps if you are listing anything over a certain amount there is a fee and anything under that amt is no charge to list. ^^^ I like that idea ^^^

Panties in a bunch? Pull 'em out. Main reason for the switch was that sellers were getting the short end of the deal, as they saw their ads buried under random comments that seldom had to do with the item for sale.
Imagine coming home from work to see your "Stumpjumper For Sale" ad had 12 replies, only to find that those replies had nothing to do with the item for sale, but rather some random yahoos' take on the benefits/ drawbacks of the Horst Link design (with perhaps some Specialized sucks/ rules discussion thrown in for interest). Pretty frustrating. For every "free bump" post, there were 25 off-topic ramblings by the masses. My suspicion is that the vast bulk of those pining for the old Marketplace are those that shopped for items on STR, not those that sold them (yes, there will be exceptions...most notably those selling lots of low-priced items). My take on a cure-all? A Marketplace-style forum with self-moderation capability and nominal fees for For Sale ads (waived for doohickey holders). Don't like a post? Delete it. "Problem" solved.

Always be a moving target
|
Need a third choice, something with the best elements of both.
Free ads for the doohicky crowd (for items under a certain dollar threshold, small fee $5 or 5% for example, for any items sold for over that threshold), paid ads for the doohicky challenged.

keep the set up of the new classifieds as far as posting adds in a category but give the seller the ability to go in and delete the random posts or a mod to go in a delete the post by request of the seller. make it free again too. how many more posts were there in the market place compared to the new style.

I dont get it...
![]() Probably the lack of sleep and food this weekend. I likes the old way better. Im lazy and only ever look at the home page. If a thread isnt there it doesn't exist. The only thing i ever bough from str was a shifter/derailleur combo. Did I need one, no. was I looking for one, no. I saw a grage sale type thread on the home page. I thought to my self "Hey do you know what? I could use a new one of thoes." I dont care if its the new system, but figure out some code to bring links to the home page. PS. Gabe your Then, Than Panda bear picture is one of the best yet. I love pandas. ![]() |

I resemble that assumption, and must admit my impulse buying has been down. I think the new Classifieds are good but not yet perfect, for example the page indicator is so small I had not noticed till today that older ad's were still up and not deleted. As a work in progress I am glad the home page is no longer cluttered with "feelers", WTB ads, and Thread hi jack offs trying to further their own agenda . ![]() Last edited by genusmtbkr5; 02-08-2010 at 12:50 PM.
