Default Mark Forums Read usage

Am I doing something wrong?

I usually click on the "unread posts" button to view new threads and usually there are a few that I'm not interested in so when I'm done I click "mark forums read". If I leave the site and come back, those threads I previously marked as read come back as unread and I don't think there were any new replies to them. Is this just the way the forum software works or am I doing something wrong?

I'm glad someone's making use of that mark forums read feature - it helps me a lot so that my 'unread posts' don't get too crazy.

But to your question: the databse is what keeps track of what you've read and not read. It doesn't use cookies - which is why you can go to another computer and it should still know what's been read. So yeah it should work how you think it would but that doesn't mean something wacky couldn't be going on with your account.

To make sure there haven't been new replies to those threads that keep coming up - write down the number of replies it had before you 'mark forums read.' Then later if they come back in your unread posts check the number of replies it had before and compare. If the number of replies is the same let me know and I'll dig into the code more.

Hit the "quick links" scroll at the line by the top of the page. Right under where it says welcome UseItOrLooseIt

Craig I have similar issues like you describe, but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I just figured it was on my end and have learned to live with it.
