Cool Sneak Peak at new features coming soon

vBulletin is testing out out their 3.6 version over at vBulletin.com. Soon after they have it ready to the public, I'll go ahead and upgrade.

Here's a sneak peak at some of the new bells and whistles.
  • quote multiple posts instead of one
  • some new ajax features
  • PM preview in notification email
  • auto-resize oversized image attachments
  • "reason for editing" can be entered on quick edit
  • infraction system -
  • . . . more

I like the PM preview idea, that sounds good and we can really use that simpler multiple quote feature

I scanned through the offerings it's looks like it going to make this site even better. A question i have is in regards to the PM. Are the going to reduce the amount of time that it is required to wait between sending PM's?

You have to send more then one private message per minute? I can change that anytime I want. It's supposed to be from stopping private message 'flooding' and overloading the server. Kind of how it limits you on number of searches within a certain time period.

If you were an admin on a busy forum then you would also be excited about new tools that help lay down the law more effectively.

And no you don't have to be excited yourself. This was just a quick heads up.

Y'know, with all due respect, George, this is one of the last forums that I would think would need an infraction report. Having been around for the last several months, mostly I've seen people be well-behaved, if a little snippy from time to time. But, hell, man, for an internet forum this is an exception. People are actually nice around here. You've seen mtbr. That place can get ugly quick.

Not saying you shouldn't do, it of course. It's your site. Just tossing in my .02. I think this is a really swanky forum. Lots of good tools and stuff. Very easy to use.

Oh definetley, gurp. STR is the best site that I've ever had the honor of being a part of. The sense of community and friendliness here is far above that of other forums that I've been on. Compared to some of the bad ones (newcelica.org for example), even MTBR seems tame.

Not only upgrading for that infraction feature though. There's tons of other little improvements and of course security patches in each new version that vBulletin puts out.

I feel ya, dawg. I'd just hate to see something like the infraction thing abused by a "cabal" of users who decided they just didn't like the cut of somebody's jib. I mean, if someone was being completely inappropriate and totally abusive, that's one thing. But, if someone's just unpopular, that's another.

I just believe in the rights of people to say stupid stuff all they want and my right to ignore them as much as I want.

God bless America and God bless STR!

Well, I believe it is a colloquial expression of affection and mutual understanding from one male to another. The intentional mispelling "dawg" rather than "dog" further connotes the slang usage and adds emphasis to the relaxed tone. The derivation is believed to have roots in the idea that canines prefer pack behavior and living. When one is one's "dawg" it is implied that the two are very familiar and "run together" or travel in the same social circles. It is thought to have begun in the hip-hop and rap cultures wherein the progenitors of said music frequently express their friendship but only within the rigid boundaries of machismo and so as to raise one's own social status by affiliating with other males of status.

Yeah, what he said!

I think it started in prison society before the rappers took it and made it their own, but then again aren't rappers and prisoners of the same ilk!
