Default Help I can't search 29er gearing

I'm looking for the thread a few weeks ago talking about dual gearing set-ups but my search keeps crashing my IE can you find it?

Close but no cigar. It was talking about a dual set up aka two rings front and back to be used seperatly. Anyone remeber? Iv'e skimed thru the first 20 pages in General and Workshop.

Ask Steve (autoduel) as I seem to remember him posting in a thread regarding that. He runs two cogs front and back on his single speed.

what do you mean by "dual gearing"? probably a simple answer but i dont understand the question...sorry

I think he means having two cogs on either end. One setup for the trails and the other for say commuting to the trail with a much bigger gear. You would have to stop and manually move the chain to the desired cogs. Some people do not like to spin on a 32:18/20etc... to the trailhead on the road. Anyways there are many threads on this at MTBR as well as arguments because the purists don't believe it is a true single speed. Hope this helps.

swut i figured...something like the Double/Double from WI I assume with a front 38/35 and rear 16/19 (or similar setup)?

I personally find it a totally retarded setup not cuz i am some sort of hemp t-shirt wearing purist but becuz its retarded, period. The novelty, at least for me, would wear off after one ride where I would stop to do something as moronic as change the gearing setup based on manual labor...to each their own I suppose

yeah, it becomes a dinglespeed, which falls into the category of dingleberries. still an ss? if you're going to stop and fiddle around, just carry a wrench, a chain whip, a lock-ring remover, some spare links, and another cog.

Dinglespeed. Thats what they were calling it on MTBR. Makes sense for some people. I have no need for one.
