Doug You can pick up a decent Bianchi road bike at the Path or Adrenaline, I could be mistaken but I think I have seen them for like 1500 to 1600. Thats nothing for a big baller like you. Ask the wife first dood.

I commute 3 days a week, which may go up to 5 since school is out and I dont have to help with the kids.

If anyone needs tires I recommend using Kenda Kwest (it looks like a motorcycle slick when installed) and my favorite due to no rolling resistance is Specialized All Condition Road tire.

Commuters rule.

By the way, I work in a Financial firm and store my bike on top of my file cabinets. I've had clients and sales persons in my office and no one has yet to say anything bad about it. Most are impressed I ride to work. And i have a pair of tan and a pair of black pants with shoes and socks of each color that I store at work. I change the shirts around after two weeks of use. So far so good. Just wish I could afford a road bike so i could compete with others. My old 7 speed hardtail competes but usually gets left behind due to gear ratios.

I used to commute on my paddy wagon from orange to Hacienda Heights (near whittier) and it worked great. I work in Lancaster now, so the commuting has come to a halt for now. I am trying to get a closer work location as we speak so I can commute again. Good luck on finding a bike, the Kona gets a thumbs up from me!

I recently took a job that is only 10 miles each way from home. I have begun to consider bike commuting but the only thing stopping me is, "perspiration". I don't care about getting sweaty once I leave but I do going into work. I don't have access to a shower or even a private office to change clothing so how do "you" prep yourself at the office for a day of work?

I like the idea of a commuter forum. So many issues! And it's always cool to cut down the number of gas-miles.

A big yes to the commuter forum.

It would help in the commitment department and also be great for finding fellow commuters to cruise on in with.

You can try a shower before you leave the house. I've heard sweat on clean = not so bad. Towel off/change in the bathroom? I get in about an hour before everyone else so I can change right at my desk... only the security cams get a little gawky. <-- kidding.

I do have a shower at work but I rarely ever use it. I generally leave at 4:40am so I am riding in the cool and I don't extert myself much.
When I get in, if I don't shower I'll give my self a disinfectant baby wipe bath.. This stops any sweating that might be going on and cleans my skin right up...

That and pleanty of anti-perspireant before I leave in the morning....

+1

I totally agree 100%. not to become one of those "steel iz reel" fanatics, but a good steel frame makes an excellent commuter.

And a bad carbon frame snaps like a twig and rides like one too.

Default Green River to Villa Park

I ride to work from Corona to Villa Park one day a week (SATURDAY). I ride on the river trail to Lakeveiw and surface streets to Villa Park. It's about 15+ miles one way. The weather has been nice but we will see how it goes this weekend. The mornings are nice and cool but the afternoons are getting hot. I'm ok just as long as it stays cool in the mornings. I take a shower before and rinse off with a wash cloth at the office. I strap my clothes and shoes, etc... in a duffel bag on a rack. It's a nice ride, especially when I can't really ride during the week. I rather ride single track on my stumpy but we don't have a shower at the office.
