Question New Catagory???? Trail Work Section

Some one else mentioned this on another post, but I think this may have real merit. What about having a catagory specifically for trail work and all that goes with it??? With all the work that is proably going to be required in the LA, OC and SD areas from the recent fires... if we had a forum section it would make it much simplier to find when and where trail work was being held. We could use it to see how many to expect, etc, etc....

What do you think?

Sounds like a good idea to me

I think a good structure would be to have the dedicated forum, then create a sticky for each of the riding areas (Oaks, PV, Aliso, El Morrow, Cleavland Forest, etc. etc.) where general information is posted about the area. Additionally, a dedicated sticky that's locked/moderator administerable that has a list of riding areas and contact information for the responsible land management agencies/conservancies. Then specific threads can be started for the different trail work projects and public meetings.

As I told another member recently, I've seen the light with regard to the need for us as individuals to beome involved in the affairs that provide for the well being of our mountain biking community. Having access to information and people in one spot is a great way to assist in that effort.

Moved to website discussion.

There's been some other new forum suggestions and I'll definitely give all the suggestions some thought. It's always a balance act between trying to not dilute posts among tons of forums but at the same time keep things organized - especially as the number of posts goes up.

Speaking of . . . here's an updated screenshot of post stats:

George,

As always, I think you're doing an awesome job and the stats and commradarie speak for themselves. I know what you mean about not wanting to splinter everything up into 100 little places. I've seen message boards like that, and it makes it impossible to figure out where to post something, let alone where to find it. The day we start asking for MFG specific forums, and forums by area code, feel free to give us all a collective kick in the junk.

Thanks,
Chris

Thumbs up

So why not just add any up and comming trail work events to the Trail Conditions forum?

http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/trail-conditions/

It's already inplace, and it would be easy enough to post any trail work events comming up.
I'm sure that once the forest opens there are enough of us willing and able to do our part.
Even if it's just a few riders at a time, that are unable to make one of the larger "club" events, I'd bet if they post it on here, help will show up, and be appreciated when it does.

I got an email today that the first thing would be to verify if the Motorway got bulldozed to act as a firebreak. If it's true, We will install grade stabilizers and water bars on this trail and re-vegetate it back to a single track.

What about just having a prefix for trail work like we do for ride reports (RR). Then when you post trail work in the trail conditions forum it's easy to find.

I do love this idea though, as a new rider I would really like to get involved with doing some trail work when I have the time.
