Summer's not over till we say it is...

We'll be starting from Ridge Park Rd./gate 9 at 3:45, riding for about 1.5 hours- or until we can't see the trail. It's about 9 miles, maybe 4 of that on solid intermediate singletrack. You'll need to be able to keep up a decent pace without breaks or be prepared to deal with creatures of the night. The basic pattern is: fun singletrack downhill, stout fireroad climb (repeat until satisfied). There are lots of possible routes, but we'll definitely end up in Emerald Canyon and finish with Missing Link/Fenceline.

Parking is free on Ridge Park Rd., but there are no "facilities" or informational kiosks (hey, it's Newport, but it's still wilderness).

Chances are if you're coming out in the dark, you'll get cited. They have a lot of folks watching this area right now.

Still I'd love to ride that in the late afternoon.

thanks for the heads-up. have you heard of people getting tickets at the ridge park entrance? i've seen some new signs on unofficial trails in lcw and the ranger says she'll ticket without warning.
sunset is at 4:57, so i think worst case we'll be finishing in the twilight. i've been doing midweek rides like this all fall. i've only seen one newport cop roll through just after sunset, but no tickets. and, you're right- it's a great way to end the day.

I've just been reading what JamR has posted and I talked to a ranger a while back and he was adamant that they were going to really crack down this coming year.
