Anyone up for Mt. Baldy on Sunday November 11. Nice time of the year to do it before it gets too cold. Since there are a lot of newbies here who do not know Baldy... it is the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains so you are riding either up or down, none of that flat stuff (although the grades really are not that bad); fire / service road climb; ride through pine covered slopes; pass in view of San Antonio Falls. Plan is to ride to Baldy Notch where there is a lodge serving simple fare. From there we can do extra credit to Thunder Mountain or maybe down the other side to Lytle Creek, hmmm
, or just hang out and enjoy the view. I will be on the hardtail, so will take the same route back, but for the more adventurous dh-types there is a steeper singletrack to take down (dh route does not end @ the ride start though, so maybe we can arrange a shuttle if anyone is interested). Back down in Baldy Village, the Baldy Village Inn serves up some good burgers and other culinary fare, as well as stocking brews for some post ride fun, and usually have a roaring fire in their fireplace. Get underway at 9:00ish - meet at the locked gate opposite Manker Flat campground, park in the road median - Don't forget your Adventure Pass. Note also that this ride is contigent upon the Forest being open (fire season you know), will post updates as we get closer. Usual STR courtesies apply, no one left behind, and all that. |

I'd like to do this sometime. So keep posting when you go, I might just make it. I have hiked out there a few times, but never taken the mountain bike.
I am always worried about running out of air. (to breathe of course)
