I think this: Thanks earned: 1,755 says it all.

Edit: 1758 now. I'm not going to be able to keep up. You get the point.

Dug up the remaining jerseys today. Two STR jerseys are going to Mark - one for him to use and one for us to sign (which will then be framed).

Anybody wanna carpool down there?

Boats -- Can I ride down there with you? I am 90% sure I am going to be able to go?

Regarding the newbie level that everyone was talking about, I don't think you need to worry about the level of difficulty of the hills. The thing about us newbies is that we don't always want to do the easy way, we want to challenge ourselves just like the more advanced riders do. Will we finish later than many of the riders -- Yes, but we will still have fun and it just makes that first adult beverage taste even better.

Well said. However--we will have a "sweeper" and the SD-STR chapter motto of NO MAN/WOMAN LEFT BEHIND will be in full effect!!

I think I have the best qualifications as a sweeper. Know anyone with a DFL record close to mine?

Sweeping is not about being the slowest, it's about motivating the slowest not to quit and keep riding even in pain. Pushing them on slightly so they push themselves.

Big Diff in DFL and Sweeping, Trust me! I'm DFL always, but not nearly possitive enough to push others to finish. It takes some pure selflessness to be a true motivating sweeper, going slow when you don't want to, not looking like "man this is taking for-ever", truely there to help others achive their goals not your own..

It's hard work...and I respect anyone who does it!

(Gene your quick! you beat me to the punch)

...and telling white lies like, "you're almost there. there's only one more small hill and you're done."

I never want to hear "you're almost there" ever again!

When I do that with Linda I just claim that I was mistaken, not lying.

It's about perspective. Almost there could mean 3 more miles. You never know.

What about "it's just around the corner" or "one more climb and it's all down hill"

I'll just sit in the back, and tell endless "back in the day" stories about Boston. I'd imagine that will motivate people to push on through.

They may find your body 20 feet from the trail with you chain wrapped around your neck...
