Default Suggestions for San Diego Fire ride

Hey all,
We are all thinking about a SD fire ride to present Mark with his new ride when all is said and done.

So, I'm asking for the opinions of those who have some SD trail time under their belts.

What trail would you vote for to have the ride at?? Lake Hodges is obviously out of the question since it's torched (though I doubt it would've been the destination anyway).

I think Noble is out of the question since I think it'd be cool to have it as a more social and fun ride than an all day epic.

EDIT: Just got word Sweetwater is burned, so scratch that one.

Trails to think about, but certainly not limited to:

Daley Ranch
Elfin Forest
Sycamore Canyon/Martha's grove
Los Penasquitos
Tri-Canyons
Mission Trails
Lake Morena
Bonita area

I think Daley would be a good idea. Not too far for the LA and OCers to drive and it has enough climbing to make it interesting, but is still easy enough to be fun and social like.

My vote is LPQ because:
1. It's a great place for a social ride.
2. It was the last ride that Mark posted (that I know of). We were all supposed to do LPQ last Tues. night.
3. It's in a central SD County location.
4. I can ride to the trail from my house.

I vote for Sycamore because is a more central location, just about the same drive time from anywhere in SD, BTW I rode Sweetwater today and is all burnt, the trails are in good shape but all vegetation is gone, I was happy to see the Seetwater Summit park and the Tiki Hut untouched. I didn't go as far as the steel bridge but I'm sure is also burnt.
LPQ will be my second choice.

I thought of that, but having a huge peloton of riders ripping through Tunnels may not be that great of an idea. And I can't imagine doing LPQ without doing Tunnels.

Very true. Even if we did an A and B group, more than 5 riders is too much.

Thought of Sycamore too. However parking is limited and that's a bit of a drive for the out of county peeps.

As far as parking goes it will depend of what entrance, we usually ride from the Santee side, plenty of marking near the High School and there is a park off the 52 freeway.
I don't know much about the Poway entrance.

I vote for Daley as well, even though I live close to LPQ and Sycamore. Daley is only about 30 minutes further up the 15 and it would make it easier on the people that live to the north of SD County. Is it still climbing when you walk next to your bike or is that Hiking?

Think it would be cool to do a trail that was nearly burned, to show our appreciation for the fact that it wasn't burned. It would also be better for it to be in the northern part of the county for LA/OC folks.

I'd say Elfin Forest or Daley Ranch.

I vote for Elfin or Daley... I think Elfin is more fun, but Daley may be more suitable for a large group.

I 2nd Daley. Location, location, location... Close to the 15 and 78 which makes it accessible to folks coming from anywhere. Also its a fun ride for weekend warriors like me or intermediate riders...

Default I'm in ...

Depending on the date, I'll make it. I think Daley or Elfin
are the obvious choices, Daley for a more social ride or Elfin if some tech is in order ...

I work some Saturdays too, so I think a Sunday would be best for everyone, from what others have posted.

I'll vote for Daley too. It's all one big build up to Bobcat Nothing says fun like Doug flying wide left 5ft vertically off the trail and gracefully recovering around the next corner.

hey...for those of us north of the SD crew...how 'bout some map links to show us where you're talking about...it may make it easier for everyone to figure it out. Are any of these places near Pizza Port(s), Stone, GreenFlash, Alesmith...? That would be a big + if any are.
