Here's a link to County of Orange Parks info on closures
http://www.ocparks.com/newsroom/defa...1540&subshow=A That makes it just about everything is closed. The air quality is so bad, you won't want to ride.

Of course many state parks are affected too, including Chino Hills. Here's the link to SP info.

I havn't ridden in 2 weeks. Air schmair.
Caspers may open for the weekend. Aliso also. San Juan is out since its part of Cleveland Nat. All my local rides are now gone and the air sucks so bad I may not ride. This sucks. If the DA is caught that started the fire, i've got a few ideas for retribution. most involve sharp metal, bamboo, torches, lemons, and a few other of my favorite things. You've heard the song.

I know what you mean. I'm used to riding everyday and this is killing me. Instead of riding, I've been drinking beer, and gaining weight. One good thing, I converted an old rigid to a ss. But now there's nowhere to ride it.

I just spoke to Ranger Jack at Aliso about 30 min ago and he told me as of today Aliso is closed. It is going on a day by day basis and the "higher ups" will evaluate the situation later today. I will update this as soon as I find out anything. I'm hopeful that it will be open. Lets cross our fingers.

even if it does open, the air here is pretty nasty. getting better, but still bad. plus, everyone in the oc will be there, so please tread lightly. aliso is going to take a big hit of traffic.
personally, i'm up for some road riding... maybe even on the xc bike, just to let the parks calm down. we could make some great training loops up the roads to top of the world, maybe cross through sections of the park but keep it mostly on the road. its not ideal but i feel like i want to give the parks some time.... |

From the ocparks website: http://www.ocparks.com/newsroom/default.asp?Show=1001540&subshow=A
The following parks have reopened to the public: Aliso & Wood Canyons Wildernss Park Caspers Wilderness Park Laguna Coast Wilderness Park Peters Canyon Regional Park Riley Wilderness Park Santiago Oaks Regional Park Now Open! The Crystal Cove Historic District is a 12.3-acre coastal portion of the 2,791-acre Crystal Cove State Park. The federally listed Historic District is an enclave of 46 vintage rustic coastal cottages originally built in the 1920’s and 1930’s nestled around the mouth of Los Trancos Creek. It is one of the last remaining examples of early 20th century Southern California coastal development. |

Another update from top o Aliso Viejo (off Aliso Creek & East Wing);
Onshore wind picking up and can now see the smoke plume outline clearly off in the distance toward Saddleback versus looking thru it and seeing nothing but smoke haze... Air Quality on the coast has improved for sure....Not sure how it would feel on the lungs, hammering up Mathis... And certainly hope this doesn't fan the fire the other way too much... |

Got this off of the OCParks.com site;
![]() Trees downed by severe winds create hazards in parks. Park Closures & Reopenings Certain OC Parks facilities remain closed due to wind and fire damage by Marlene Brajdic, Special Services Manager on 10/22/2007 Several parks are closed due to the recent fire and wind damage. In addition, high levels of air pollution from the heavy smoke from the fires has led to further park closures as a health precaution. Parks that have been temporarily closed are Heritage Hill Historic Site Irvine Regional Park O'Neill Wilderness Park Limestone/Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park Yorba Regional Park Additionally, the Santiago Equestrian Center at Limestone/Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park and the Irvine Park Railroad and Pumpkin Patch remain closed until further notice. The following parks have reopened to the public: Aliso & Wood Canyons Wildernss Park Caspers Wilderness Park Laguna Coast Wilderness Park Peters Canyon Regional Park Riley Wilderness Park Santiago Oaks Regional Park The Public is asked to cooperate with the County of Orange in staying out of closed areas and trails even after the immediate danger is controlled. Firefighters, park rangers and other resource agencies need the public to comply with the park and trail closures until such time as it is both safe for the public and not harmful to the environment. The public is advised that these closures will be strictly enforced. OC Parks will have a large job ahead to clear trails and facilities of fallen trees and debris created by the high winds. Even after the fires have ended, the burned areas are very fragile and an assessment will be made regarding when these might open to the public again. This website will be updated to advise visitors as to when the parks will reopen. It is important for the public to be safe, to keep out of the way of fire-fighting operations and to respect nature's healing process. Thanks for your cooperation. Information regarding the local fires may be found on the Orange County Fire Authority Web Site www.ocfa.org. Information regarding the smoke advisory may found on the South Coast Air Quality Management District Web Site www.aqmd.gov. These parks are gonna be packed for a while. Let's all remember our manners. Enjoy everybody!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
