Talking Camp Nelson freeride this weekend

Anyone want to ride up at camp nelson this weekend? Sat or Sunday. I want to get up there again before it snows.

Geno yes! I enjoyed riding with you last trip. I do want to come up and I am talking to a couple of STR members about camping at Quaking Aspen. I have not done Jordan Peak or Needles Lookout rides. I have to work Friday AM and will see if I can get Monday off tomorrow. Even if I can't I may just come up Friday afterwork and leave Sunday evening after riding. Would like a longer weekend....will take what I can get.

Besides I need to work on my hucking skills.....and that is a trail to do it.

I think I'm not too far from there. If it's outside Bakersfield about 2.5 hours? Might be interested in meeting you guys up there.

I love that Camp Nelson trail! Can we do the 3 mile tour again...?

Shannon, It's not far from Bakersfield from Morro you take 58 to Bakersfield then it's about 80 miles from Bakersfield but most of it is narrow mountain roads...

Dean,

I might be able to swing both days...I'll need to run it by the wife.

I hurt for weeks after the last trip. Oh well...I will do my best to be as entertaining as last time.

Most excellent riding. Do notice the Freeride in the post but you can ride around most of the stunts. I am pretty much going to head up there sometime Friday. Camp at Quaking Aspen. Do be warned it is at altitude 7-9,000ft and the rides are not easy. Camp Nelson Trail has gnar but the ride through the ride through tree more than makes up for it...well worth it.

I'd very much like to join you guys, but the wife said "no" before I even asked. Don't know how she does it, but it's pretty creepy.

No trips for awhile yet, I'm afraid.

I know...that's just temporary, I know Sara likes camping up there...when the little one is bigger they can join us.

Hey Dean - what bike should I bring? Would I regret not bringing the heavy one?

Pictures and videos were posted from our last ride. Search Camp Nelson and Quaking Aspen.

Default NEED Some Info Please.

How far away is it from OC Dean?
If I leave straight from work Saturday morning at 6am and drive like I really need to get somewhere would I make it in time to meet up with you guys?
I NEED to ride, and this looks like a good place to do it!

It would be hard for you to get there in less than 4hrs...3.5 maybe.

There are two options for it to work:

1 - we ride 2 laps on Nelson on Sat. That would put you there in time for the second.

2 - Ride the lookout trail in the morning and then the nelson trail in the afternoon.

We can save the goods for Sunday.

Here is a video of the rides:

I think 3-4 hours. Have drove up Porterville Highway 65 to Avenue 56 up through California Hotsprings and have been up Highway 190 throught Springville. I don't know if there is a difference. Might be a touch quicker to Quacking Aspen up Avenue 56.

I will try to get campsite #25 in Quaking Aspen in is on the edge of the meadow so maybe we can get some AM sun.

Darren if I know you are coming we can wait for you or you can get the second shuttle run. We shuttle Camp Nelson Trail. The trail head starts at Quaking Aspen Campground and ends in the little town of Camp Nelson...maybe a 9 mile downhill. Sunday could envolve some major climbing.
