i've always understood it as more downhill than XC, but less than traditional DH. 4-6" bikes preferred. Some climbing involved as well.

It would be interesting to enter the beginner class and come in last place just to find out exactly how much I suck.

I'm gonna race XC and DH and 4x and Super D ... and THEN I'm going to go do a torture training ride for Vision Quest. And THEN I'm going to go on a low carb diet to improve my power to weight ratio. After that I might get myself into dire credit card debt by buying a crap-load of mountain bikes I don't need. Then maybe I'll spend my entire day on STR. Maybe break a bone or two to show how dedicated I really am. Really. Then I'll apply for "sponsorship" (i.e. - free gu's and a free pump just maybe!) and brag to all my friends about how "cool" I am now that I'm sponsored. Wow, I can't wait to turn my hobby into the greatest torture I can possibly fathom! Yipee!

Is the XC course always the same course? I race one race last year. I was just wondering if it the same. If I remember right their isn't much room to change the course. One more question. How is the XC course if their is rain?

And you're still thinking of starting BMX, right?

The course has a small change this year, omitting that super sandy downhill section. That XC course is dangerous in the rain, not too bad if it's had a few days to dry out. It's actually best a few days after a rain.

Super D is lots o' fun. The courses really vary, although I almost always choose to do them on my C-Dale Rush, rather than my Enduro. The guy who absolutely kills the rest of us in Super D in every race does it on a 29er hardtail. Hopefully the Super D courses this year will be geared much more what it was intended to be, fast DH, not too tech, with some short climbs. (I plan on helping set up the courses this year, so that's why I have my hopes up!)

Super D is part downhill, part xc. At Southridge, they take that literally. You climb up on part of the xc course then descend on the downhill course. At most venues, super D is less than ~20 minutes or so. It can be fun to race but the year I did it, I focused very little on xc riding/racing and more downhill. I suffered on the climbs.

Southridge is a great venue.

Friendly promoter, great 'urban-cross' course, super fun and friendly atmosphere.

If you are even the least bit curious about racing, go. You won't regret it.

Then bring your bike and practice, or even better, race! It'll give you a chance to get your feet wet - so to speak - without any pressure; because you're just doing it for fun, right? And who knows, you may find that racing is fun.
