Assuming the DH course is good, I'll race DH. But I'm really looking forward to try racing 4X. so that will probably consume the time I could have been practicing DH.

I haven't seen much information from SRC on how they run the 4X races. Can anyone describe how the event is run? Also, I have never watched 4X races so I have no idea of the level of competition (just as I didn't know before my first DH race). Do you think starting in Sport would be OK? Keep in mind that I'll be racing against 19-year-old kids.

BTW, I know buying the SRC membership is optional, but if I want a membership for both DH and 4X, do I need to buy two memberships?

They are actually around 6.88miles (according to my GPS).

Further.. the laps are fairly difficult (more so than Mt. SAC IMO), but only because the majority of the course is singletrack. Some of the climbs are steep. The descents can be steep and loose, but I get off and walk/run when I don't feel comfortable riding.

The stage everyone so Pro/Expert goes, then Sport, then Beginner. So you won't be starting out with Pro's. They may be passing you later on, but just keep an eye out and be respectful, and hopefully others will do the same for you when you are trying to pass.

My only complaint from the Annual race was the DHers that thought they should mosey along the XC course and not get the eff out of my way. I also was really worried I'd get run into on lap 2 when they were practicing (illegally).

Dirttorpeedo is a regular as far as STR (Incycle) racing 4X. I have a few other friends that compete every race that can answer questions for ya I'll send info. I think what makes this my favorite is it's a fast competitive battle between 4 racers and you can see almost the entire course from one position. I never miss it and hope more will come out to watch. I can't wait to see ya race you're gonna kill it out there!!

The DH course will be good if you're on it racing Vet Pro.

I find the disparity in times smaller between beginners and sports, moreso than sports and experts/semis/pros. Each lap you have to do breaks you down. The top sports learn that when they move up, I did.

I haven't been on the DH bike in months, but I think I'll sign up in Vet Pro - ya know, donating to the needy. Besides, I want to race a class I know I can't win.

Jason, are you racing 4X?

Can you give me an example? I've seen some fast sport lap times, but never that fast.

Going by the age on your profile, I was one of the fastest riders in the Winter Series last year in the sport group to which you refer. Having just read your post, I did the math and concluded I would have finished last in pro in every race, even if I could have kept up my pace for that hypothetical third lap (yeah, right).

Using the same faulty math, my times suggest I could have possibly made the podium in semi on some of the days the turnout was thin or soft (meaning like 4 guys showed up, and one of them flatted), but I would have been some 15-20 minutes behind the leaders, even under the most favorable mathematical scenarios.

And of course the discrepancies for the downhill times are less noticeable. The races only last for like three minutes.

Anyways, I've long since moved up, so I'm out of your way now. If you think the sport guys are fast, wait until you try racing expert.

Go have fun, and good luck next year!

the major sandbagging comes in XC. the guy that was killing the Sport XC for my age group was turning in single lap times that were equivalent to the winning pro's lap times (just looking at single lap times, pro does one more lap than sport)

No 4X for me, I'm sticking to Super D and DH, possibly some xc if I'm feeling like I really need to die. The 4X bug just hasn't caught me, maybe if I had the right bike.

How much does it cost besides the membership?

How does this course compare to 12 hour of Temecula?

I may just go up and watch if I can get away.

Membership is OPTIONAL and $40 for the year. It gives you a permanent number plate, set of grips, t-shirt, and $5 off entry fees.

I don't have exact figures of prices per race, but I'm sure the Winter Series flyer on the site lists them.

The Fontana course is probably slightly shorter, and I'd say around the same amount of climbing. Maybe less fire road/double track?

It's also a bit more... urban
