Default San Gabs-Wintercreek/Mt. Wilson Tr

Start at Chantry Flats and ride (climb, HAB) Upper Wintercreek up to Mt. Wilson tr and decend down to Sierra Madre. Will probably shuttle out the paved road up to Chantry. I'm guessing less than 15 miles but not an easy ride. The climb out of the cyn is tough and the decent is highly technical. If you don't like exposure, this ride is not for you. I'll set a start time for 8:30 to meet near the bottom of the Chantry gate. From there will figure shuttle options. I'll figure out the actual meeting location (streets) later. If the majority wants to meet earlier/later that's OK with me. I wanted to give some of the OC crew time to get there.

Here's a link steppie found on some Mt. Wilson trail history:

If you guys want a longer ride, continue climbing up the toll road once you get to the bench where Upper Winter Creek starts. Continue all the way to the top then go through the gate like you're going to the observatory. At the end of the road make a right and you'll see the trailhead for the top half of the Mt Wilson Trail. This section is fun with tight switchbacks and rock gardens at the very beginning. You'll end up back on the toll road for a short decent b4 ending up back at the bench where you can go right on the Mt Wilson Trail down to Sierra Madre.

There's gunna be a few hike-a-bikes on this trail..it has been in bad shape for about 2 years..plus it gets packed with hikers on the weekends..

Holy Cow!! Well, I'm sure CORBA has come in and removed that boulder on one of their trail maintenance days!

Dino-no idea what time we'll finish. It's been a long time since I rode either of the two sections and I've never done the loop this way. rough guess 2-3pm

Default Meeting spot

From the 210 Fry take Santa Anita Ave north. Go one block past Foothill and make a right on E. Sycamore and park. This is the easiest place I can think of. From the end of the trail it looks like it's all downhill on pavement to this spot.

I mapped out the ride and it comes in at about 12mi. 2500ft of climbing and 4200 down. Between miles 2.35 and 4.5 will be the toughest. Now I remember why I haven't done this in awhile.

Still trying to decide what bike to bring.
