Hey guys-
I'm trying to squeeze as much riding in as possible before I head home to Boston in December. So far, I can't convince anyone to join me on this mini-road trip, so there's one rack on my roof open. This gathering goes on from Friday till Sunday, but I'm going to head up Saturday afternoon, enjoy the free camping and Bionicon BBQ, shuttle the illustrious "Just Outstanding" trail, and then go home. Details: Kern Valley Gathering - Nov 2-4, 07 Mark your Calenders, tell your friends! The Dates have been set for the first Kern Valley Gathering! November 2, 3 & 4 2007. If you've never ridden here before this is a great opportunity to get introduced to a wide variety of trails in a beautiful area. You can find rides for any type of bike there but the ultimate bikes for the area are 5-6 inch travel AM and Trail bikes. The Kern Valley is home to some of the best rides in SoCal, its located about an hour east of Bakersfield on Hwy 178 and 3 hours from most of the LA area. We will base our camp in the Keyesville recreation area just outside of Lake Isabella, the camping is free with plenty spots and trail access right there, also it is at the finish of the Dutch Flat trail and the Snake Pit DH trail. This Gathering is very informal, loosely organized and is all about having fun with like minded people in this great area for Mountain Biking. Any suggestions, ideas or contributions you can make to help this be a really fun and memorable gathering are very welcome and encouraged. We would also like to get some swag together for a free raffle, any company reps from the Bike industry that would like to come out and play are very welcome or to just donate some swag would be great. We need some Local volunteers (or if you know the area well) to help lead some AM groups on Saturday (Cannel, if there is no snow) and Sunday (J/O, Wall Street, Dutch Flat, Unal) and maybe someone would be into leading a Kern Canyon trail and/or Keyesville XC group on one of the days. Shuttles are available through Mountain and River Adventures in Kernille, and we can plan private shuttles between participants also. Bionicon will be there with a fleet of Demo Bikes for people to test ride for FREE, and will provide a BBQ on Saturday night. Thank you, to all who responded on the "checking interest" thread!! Looks like we will have a good group for our first attempt at organizing this. Please post if you intend to come out so we have an idea how many people may be there. |

This is being put together by some people that I know. I will be leading some rides Friday - Sunday. It looks like my truck and the big bike trailer will be in use as well. Conditions are very good right now. As long as we don't get a big cold storm between now and then we should be good.

You are driving up here from San Diego for one day of riding? Are you nuts? It's a great trail but isn't that like 12 hours of driving? You should at least ride for 2 days.

Well, I feel like this is my last chance to ride Kernville before I move back to Boston. When I take MTB trips in the future, it'll probaly be to places like Whistler, Moab, etc. And I doubt I'll be living on the West Coast again (for a long time at least), so I gotta take what I can get. Doh! Now you've got me thinking... that is a long @ss drive. Especially if I'm going solo... |

Exactly. The thing is, you just have to go for the whole enchilada, all three days (insert "devil" smilie here). |

Although I may be flying up to Vegas and staying with my mom. I will have my mom's guest car so if anybody wants to go do anything or go down to the strip I have wheels.
