Ride with the "A" group. I think you'll like the trail they will go on. I'll be with the main group.

So cal trail riders: I received word about your event and was asked to investigate what you all had planned. I hate to be a party pooper, but Carbon Canyon will be closed due to wet trails for your event. The soil of Carbon Canyon and some parts of Chino Hills park is highly concentrated clay that does not dry out quickly and isn\'t much fun to ride through when it\'s wet. With the expected rains this week, it is unlikely that the trails will be dry enough to ride on this weekend. I see that you are planning to send 50 or more people through our park. It\'s likely that the people in your group will do damage to our already fragile trails. We aske that you please postpone your event to another time and that you also obtain a permit from the Orange County Regional Parks office. In case you didn\'t know, it is illegal to have an event of this size without one. We will have rangers on the trails and we will be issuing citations for anyone riding in the park on Saturday the 20th. For more information, you can visit the Carbon Canyon Regional Park website. http://www.ocparks.com/carboncanyon/ Thank you for your cooperation.

Hi Ranger, welcome to the site.

If you do a search, you'll see that veterans on this board practice and encourage responsible trail stewardship.
It's unlikely that this bike ride will damage the fireroad.
What rains this week are you speaking of?

I would rather not reveal that information. If you have any questions, you can contact the Carbon Canyon Regional Park office with the following information: Carbon Canyon Regional Park 4442 Carbon Canyon Road Brea, CA 92823 (714)973-3160 or (714)973-3162 carboncanyon@ocparks.com

I have checked the National Weather Service website and I have personally observed the trail conditions. We had nearly a half inch of rain on the trails over the weekend. Currently, the trails are a thick clay mud. The temperatures have not been high enough yet to dry out the trails and with partially cloudy skies and low overnight temperatures expected for most of the week, it is unlikely that the trails will be fully ready for a group of your size by this weekend. Even if the trail surfaces appear to be dry by this Friday, the underlying soil is deeply penetrated with water and that takes much longer to dry out. Carbon Canyon and Chino Hills are a very sensitive area due to the fires in recent years. While most of the fire roads are intact, there have been degradations of many of the single tracks recently due to the rains and mountain bikers. We please ask that you give the trails a break for a while while the trails dry out. This is a normal cycle of nature. There are many other places around to ride that won\'t be affected by rain and we ask that you please explore those other areas, such as Blackstar Canyon. Thanks again for your cooperation.

MTBRanger, so far I am not convinced that you are what you say you are. Why hide behind a screen name? If you do not what to be a "party pooper" help us get the required permit. Without going into the negative details I have had at CHSP I also have first hand knowlegde of the damage horses have done on the Eastern Boundary Singletrack.

Reading between the lines "not ready for a group your size" not that the park will be closed to all activities. This park has never been a MTBing friendly park - if you are legit that trend continues.

"OK technically, you haven\'t reached the group permit limit of 100 guest or more. But I suspect with a group this popular you will. If you read the brochure of the park, you\'ll see that a 15 day notification is required. I doubt a headcount will be taken, but why risk it since you\'re already halfway there? Anyway, here\'s the park brocure: http://www.ocparks.com/carboncanyon/...=ParkBrochures"

Quoted from MTBRanger post from the 'Why STR is Better' Thread.

What's the real story? I think I'd have to agree with Steppie.

I appreciate your scientific analysis of the projected weather conditions for the Carbon Canyon Regional Park / Chino Hills State Park area and I assume that your interpretations of this data are based upon your many years of research into weather. The fact though is that weather conditions vary dramatically depending upon terrain and distance from the ocean. A common sense view would be to look at the ground itself and the weather reports to determine what may be coming, as I have done. Tomorrow the local news channels and the NOAA are predicting a light \"drizzle\" in most areas around here but in the canyons weather conditions are much different. You really need to be there to understand. Anyway, like I said before, if the conditions of the mud persist as they are now, the trails will be closed and we\'ll have signs up to notify you all of the closure if that\'s the case.

Not at all. Quite the contrary actually. You\'re all welcome in Carbon Canyon. But this weekend is probably not the best time to ride here.

Gonna send you a PM. Prove to me that you are who you say you are or I'll assume you're another troll (likely from one mentally unstable individual) and take appropriate action . Not to mention you have a funky IP address.

Cathy,

Bring the extra batteries you have for everybodies radios, you know, the ones you said you had like two pallets of stored in your garage. Oh wait, those won't fit, they are D batteries, what was it you used those for again?

George, I received your private message. I cannot reveal my personal information to you because if I do so I would lose my job. Please, postpone your event to another day at Carbon Canyon. I will have a lot of trail maintenance to do if you all come through this weekend. And I can\'t stop my bosses from issuing citations. They know you\'re coming.
