Hi guys,
![]() I am probably going to do the tunnel trail on Sunday... Anybody that has done it.... I want to ride up... but i hear it might not be a good idea because of the elevation and all the riders coming down.. Elevation doesn't bother me too much but if i don't ride up tunnel... what other trail would you guys recommend riding up from the bottom of Tunnel in order to get to the top of Tunnel trailhead? and... directions to the recommended trail up?thanks - |

Tunnel and Cold Springs are the bomb daddies to go down, absolutly TOO rough to go up. There is a trail more south called Romero that is suited for the climb, once at the top proceed north on the road and the first drop will be cold springs at the water catch, and then Tunnel over past the intersection.

You don't ride up Tunnel. I guess you can hike up Tunnel but why bother. Take Gibraltar (paved road) from somewhere off Milpas then Monticito and weave your way to the trail head. It's about 6-8 miles. Once on top, make a left at junction. Trail head will be visible on your left marked by an old rusty sign, no more then 1/4 mile or so.

It's been a while since I've ridden Noble or Chiquito, but in comparison, I don't remember many rocks at either of those. Tunnel, on the other hand, is like: smooth section, chunk, chunk, drop, chunk, turn/chunk/drop, chunk, smooth section, chunk, chunk, chunk.... I'd say tunnel is more techy than either of them, but other opinions may differ.

![]() I wouldn't imagine v-brakes being much of a problem on Tunnel, simply because you're not going to be able to go very fast on a rigid singlespeed on a lot of that trail.

singlespeed is ok for the climb but tunnel was a bad fixed gear climb for sure |

Project d and Lee are both right,Tunnel is by far more technical in my opinion, and anyone else I've rode with would say the same thing. Still Tunnel is very, very fun. Riding it rigid??? Well, there are "those" people out there, and I think you know what I mean by "out there".
