Default Post work ride in GA

Just made a quick tour of most of the trails in Tribble Mill, a local park just a few miles from the house today and actually took the time to stop and take a few pics.

i had the misfortune to live '96 - '06 in GA/ Atl's East Side/ Gwinnet county.

Actually lived about 5 minutes from 15 miles of good single-track (called “Yellow River”). But alas, the local county officials have to pay back their big campaign contributors. If Pork Barrel was not invented in GA, it sure was refined there. So the county awarded a multi-million dollar contract to a construction firm who bulldozed mostly undeveloped forest and paved paradise. Made a multi-use park that sees less use now that it did in it’s original natural state. Turned 15 miles of awesome single-track in to 2 miles of very PG rated single-track (and only because mt bikers demanded it and built it), plus maybe 5 miles of golf-cart trails. Basically was and is an abortion.

I moved closer to Tribble Mill- subject of SS’s pics- and it was a god send. Sweet pine-needle covered trails. Although it sort of like being a lion in cage. Tribble Mill is a few hundred acres surrounded by suburban sprawl. Every inch of topography has to be used to squeeze in the 12 miles (or so) of trails. Versus here in CA- where the single-track bisects giant uninhabited mountain ranges.

So, lest you CA riders dream upon the Eastern single-track? Spare yourself the thought. I’ve ridden the “best” of the east (Tsali, DuPont Forest et al). Fair sledding, at best. But nowhere remotely close to the best of the San Gabriel’s, for instance.

But while I am slowly de-toxifying myself of my GA existence (spitting out shards of those experiences like they were spoilt milk),, I must give serious kudos to SSin GA and the other local GA mtn bike activists who work very hard with the various officials to keep mountain biking legal as well as expanding it into areas with no previous single-track. Doing God's work. Tip of the hat to you.

I've been to GA twice this year and both times I didn't have a bike....It won't happen again.

It's nice because it's close to home and has some fun singletrack.
