Thanks for the invite but I feel a sleepless night in progress. Besides, even on my best day I'd be slowing y'all down. I'll try that one another day soon.

I had all my gear in my car, and would'nt you know it, it rained pretty much all night in Irvine. When I got off at 7am, it was raining lightly, but the clouds were so thick that I could'nt see the Peaks. So, I just came home.

Dammit, I woke up, saw all the water in the street. and totally flaked.
Tried to atone for it by riding the road this afternoon. Flatted, broke the valve stem on the first inner tube, and my 2nd inner tube was a shrader valve and my wheels are drilled for presta only. F*ck! No patches, so I had to walk 45min. to a place my buddy would recognize to pick my azz up. Karma sucks. Sorry bros. Glad you guys got a good ride out it. |

I showed up a little late figuring that Jose would be late himself. As it turns out, even Jose flaked on his own ride, but Bizarro "You no am Jose" Jose showed up on time instead. We waited around for a few more minutes and then took off to Blackstar. We encounter some light rain while on the pavement, but it wasn't enough to deter us.
Once we got onto the dirt, it started to rain a bit harder. Luckily, the fireroad wasn't as muddy as I thought it would be. By the time arrive we arrived at the '180' degree left turn (where all the concrete pipes were piled) we were pretty much soaked. Well...we came this far...might was well keep going. About a quarter mile from the first cattle crossing, my tires just sank into the ground. I got off my bike and started pushing, but my tires were so completely covered in mud my tires wouldn't even turn. So I shouldered the bike and made my way up past the first cattle crossing. I looked back to see where Jose was and I didn't see him. I figured he got stuck in the same muddy section I was in, so I decided to make use of the time to clean some of the mud off my bike. After wasting half the water in my camelbak, I walked back down the fireroad to see where Jose went. Didn't see him. I thought 'Eh, he must be around the corner.' I went back to my bike and cleaned some more mud off of it. I went back down the fireroad....still no Jose. WTF...the mud was bad, but it wasn't THAT bad. Just was about to head back up to my bike, I hear the squealing of brakes....a second later I see Jose tearing down the hill. Frakkin eh...if you're going to turn around at least let me know. I yelled out 'Hey, where are YOU going?' Jose replies back 'I'm going back down'. Yeah, no shit you're going back down. ![]() So I ran back to my bike and headed back down. I finally caught up to Jose when the dirt turned to pavement. 'Hey wth, why'd you turn around?' Jose points to a clump of mud that was formally his bike. Well, that's understandable....he was riding a 29er. The ride back to the cars was uneventful, it was on pavement after all. Even after all the rain and mud, the ride still turned out well. |
