Default Noble Canyon (10/20/07)

Back, by popular demand!!

Get ready! We're riding the Tour de Noble! 30-35 miles, 4500ft + of climbing. Lots of rocks, boulders, singletrack, stunts, and great views.

Make sure if you sign up you're prepared for at least an 8 hour day. The pace will be moderate. We just don't want anyone running out of food, water, bike supplies (tubes, air, etc), bonking... We should be able to stop and refill hydration packs and bottles, if necessary. Just bring your bike, helmet, tools, tubes, plenty of food and water, and you'll end up with a smile on your face at the end!

Included in the Tour we'll be traveling up the trecherous bottom of Noble through .5 mi of rock garden switchbacks, descending 1-2 miles of beautifully sculped singletrack, experiencing the painful Alpe d'Wheez pavement climb for our first break at the Oak tree. Following that we'll take a short fire road and then begin ascending the breathtaking (literally) Indian Creek climb, which leads to our second rest stop at Champagne Pass. After descending Pinball, and then climbing up a bit more singletrack we will continue on the undulating upper Noble trail to Penny Pines. A short break and water re-fill will ensue, followed by a quick climb up to Big Laguna Lake, where we'll play lizard in the sun and eat lunch beside the lake.

From here we can head off and climb up Middle Earth to a fun singletrack descent, or continue around the lake and just descend back to the REAL descent.

Either way, after Middle Earth, or directly next we'll be off to descend a short singletrack, and begin our descent down Noble Canyon. This includes swoopy flowing singletrack through leave-strewn singletrack and a canopy of trees, and has many stunts, such as the log jump, Widowmaker, Barney Rubble, the rock playground, and will eventually wind down to Stairway to Hell.

From there we will climb out and cross over to our final ascent up Whore (this was the beautiful descent from the beginning, but now looks much different in the afternoon, following a lot of miles and climbing). Our last descent will be down the rock garden switchbacks and will end at the original trailhead parking lot. Are you (wo?)man enough to hit the ROMAN WALL??

Post-ride food includes BYOB at the trailhead (for those of you of age) and Mexican food at Mananas just down the freeway in Alpine.

If you want some ride stats, check out geoLadders: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=944

I will be posting my UPDATED ride from this past Saturday on Geoladders at some point. Similar to the above, but includes more climbing and mileage. Photos to be posted later. Someone please post so I can put them up tonight

Again, I'd like to re-iterate:
1. This is a LONG day. We will be on the bikes for 8+ hours. Please don't make plans with the wife, girlfriend, or other family members if you MUST be back before dark!

2. No one will let you run out of food, water, or supplies (if they can help it), but please bring enough food, hydration, tubes, and tools for an 8 hour day with advanced trail.

Thank you and please tip your waiter!

Default Photos, for your viewing pleasure

Just so you know what you're getting yourselves into:

This is one of the "easier" parts of Extra Credit

Whore descent

Alp du Wheez

Oak Tree

Indian Creek climb

Waterfall

More later...

FWIW, *totally* not try to be rude to anyone that had to bail out this past weekend (it happens!).

It's happened before where people show up and are like, "So we'll be done by 3, right?" Um, no.

So, just so everyone knows I want to be up front about it... It's a LONG day. It's going to be ALL day. It will be dark out when you leave home, and it'll be dark out when you get back.

But, it'll be a GREAT time in between!!

I am sooo looking forward to this. I will be sporting the new wheels and a different fork that will still make the climbs doable and should make the descent very fun.

If Jeremy comes, I will be in control of his keys

If he breaks his frame again, he's on his own. I have been to Noble three times and ridden the whole thing but once, all because of the bad luck of my boy J. Maybe I will leave him at home

Just kidding J!!

Umm, no. That Daley Double was set up as a training ride for Jeremy and Tom/NappyT (who wasn't able to make it).

I will not be doing anymore Daley Doubles/Triples/Quadruples unless it's training for CC.

I don't think you were referring to me, but I had to split because I needed my meds that were locked in Jeremy's car at the top.

As a "Noble Whore", you know I'm down for the punishment!!

I was trying to be left at home. SO, I left the keys in the car in retaliation.

project_d [09-18-2007 05:06 PM] - I don't think I'll be ready for that again.

Oh come on. You still have the right side shifter to break!!!
