Default XC race practice Sunday 9/16?

Hey,

Anyone interested in getting in some XC race practice at either Southridge or Bonelli this Sunday?

Thought we'd do a nice warm-up lap and then do race pace for a bit.

Not too longer, mebbe 1-2 hours?

Sounds good to me. Hopefully someone has a decent route! Jason said he probably wouldn't available on Sunday!

yeah, been doing it for the last month or so.

Though within the last week the park service has cut down some trees and/or bushes, tore up a lot of the soil and has now made parts of the fire roads pretty loose. What was previously hard packed dirt is now some thick dark soil if you don't pick the right line.

I've never been to Bonelli, so red arrows on a map doesn't help me at all

ah, well that makes sense lol

it's mostly fire roads, not many forks in the road so it's not hard to get lost. Pretty fun but short singletrack/rock garden, and 3 somewhat fun descents. Always seems to be more climbing that descending though heh

however that loop is only 5 miles. If you're looking for something longer, there's plenty of routes for that posted on geoladders

realistically, there's so many trails there that you can bike for a long time and make some really long trips out of it.

We're doing around 35 miles tomorrow on big bikes, so won't want too many miles. I really just wanted to be introduced to the trails before the SCVelo race next month.

If anyone wants to show us that course that'd be great! Maybe if it's only 5 miles we can do an easy lap, hot lap, then explore?

I'm thinking probably around 9 am? I wanna watch some football also.

I think those laps are more like 7 miles. 2 years ago fast guys were doing them in 30min. And I think I did them singlespeed around 39min.

Not sure if I can make at 9am, but have fun. I may pre-ride 10/6 with some friends.

Definitely PM me if you guys are going out there at all.

I was thinking about SSing, but there isn't a separate class, is there?

the site says 6-7 miles, but my computer keeps saying 5.x miles. Either way, PM Sharky on here, been quite helpful with me.

I think SSpeed class did the expert length like 5 laps.

I'd just lump in with the rest of the beg/sport or whatever you signed up for.
The course it is totally singlespeed friendly without any long super steep climbs. Though DavidB mentioned some loose dirt which would blow.

I have some friends doing so we're trying to pre-ride but that might not happen till the day before.

Hopefully they'll be more girls for you Allison than the 4 I saw out there a few years ago. I know my friend says she's in and I know she's pretty fast on her hardtail.

I wouldn't be able to make it, but you shouldn't have too much trouble figuring out the course. BFlo should get out there and play guide. david b was correct on the mileage, only about 5 miles, and not too hard. I did a 25 minute lap, followed by a 29 minute lap today, and really wasn't pushing that hard. Have fun!!

Yeah, I'll be racing Sport 30-39. I usually go when I have an extra hour or so, I only live 2 miles from the course, so I usually head out from home. PM me next time you're going.
