Harden The F*** Up!!

Gonna hit up Martha's Grove/Sycamore Canyon Saturday 9/22 at 3:30-ish. I say 3:30-ish because I work at Beyond Bikes and we close at 3PM, but I may not get out the door until 3:15 or so, then a 10-15 minute drive to the trailhead.
Ride distance is only around 10-12 miles and there's not a whole lot of climbing, maybe 1,000' or so. Directions: MAIN TRAILHEAD - From I-15 exit at Poway Rd. Take Poway Rd. to Garden Rd. and turn right. Take Garden Rd. East to Sycamore Canyon Rd. and turn right. Take Sycamore Canyon Rd. south to the parking lot at the end of the road. For an idea: http://www.mountainbikebill.com/SycamoreCanyon.htm RIDE IS CANCELED DUE TO RAIN!!!!!! |

Not sure if you have read any of my recent blog post but I have made a nice loop around Sycamore. If you make a left at the intersection, where you guys went right last time coming out of Martha's, it will take you up a long fire road climb to the 67 staging area. Make a right at the top of that climb (don't go straight) and you can catch the Ridge Trail. Take that all the way to the end 1.8 mi and then follow the switch back down into the canyon. Make a left at the bottom on to the Stowe trail. Stay on the east side (I don't think I have taken you guys over to that side yet) and you will pick up some fun singletrack after some short fire road sections. Follow that down as far as you want then come back on the West side like our usual route. The Ridge Trail adds some fun climbs and a wicked down hill section for about 60 seconds. You actually will reach a higher elevation than the parking lot in Poway where you start. If you add this section of trail to your usual route. It also doesn't add much time since its only a couple miles. The cool part is it makes a fun loop and until you get to the merge near the water treatment plant you don't double any of the trail.
Here is a pic of the fire road coming out of Martha's from about 1/3 of the way up the fire road climb to the 67. ![]() Here is a pic looking down from the 67 staging area at the preserve. ![]() Here is the last pic at the start of the Ridge Trail near the 67 staging area. This is the first short climb. There are 4 or 5 more climbs behind this one. That lil blip on in the back ground on the right side of this first hill is the one that sucks the most. Its kind of steep with a ton of baby heads. Not difficult just sucks... ![]() Sorry for the crappy photos but I only had my phone with me that day. If I ever find my GPS I'll post the route. |

I might need to host another ride and fight night. I'll check with the boss.
