Looking for new trails

Question Hurkey Creek/Idyllwild trails

I am heading up to Idyllwild this weekend and would like to know if there are other trails besides the Hurkey creek race loop. The ideal ride would be 20-25 miles long and take 3-5 hrs, (similar to Holy Jim-Trabuco, Bell ridge or Coldwater)...Any help in appreciated!

Check out Thomas Mountain - Ramona Trail before or after doing a lap at Hurkey Creek, or check out some of the Idyllwild Spring Challenge courses. All great routes.

Oh, check them out on http://www.geoladders.com

Question Hurkey Creek/Idyllwild

After a little hiatus and with the heat tapering off, I am ready to go again...

I have never ridden this area before, but I have heard really really good things about this place...

Would anyone be interested in getting a ride going for up there during October time? I know that everyone plans in advance, so lets figure out a good weekend to do this!

Also, keep in mind the Palm Canyon Epic....Still too hot though...

Craig,

Dean may be setting up a camping weekend up there. We went for Easter with the STR group (our first STR group riding - it didn't disappoint!) and rode Hurkey at night, Thomas Mtn/Ramona Trail from the campground Saturday, and did an Ernie Maxwell shuttle from Tahquitz Peak all the way down to the Hurkey trail. It was a total blast.

Ooooh....How can you go wrong. That sounds sweet. Problem is, I need a guide!

Has Dean started the thread yet?

Nope.

We'll be busy with a XC race and then a demo days DH thing for Oct 7 and then 14. Hopefully neither of those weekends

Maybe if everyone is interested we can plan on Oct 20-21? I dunno.

I'd suggest the 29/30, but I may have family plans one of those days.

Default thanks for the trail Tips

Idyllwild has some great riding! We ended up doing a loop called "optimator" along with some extra single track that was below the parking area. We lost the trail when it came out on a large rock slab area. We also did a nice loop on the HC race course. It was much better than I was expecting. A great area, I think we will definitely be back for more.

I just came back from a weekend in Hurkey Creek and did that same ride. Alvin Meadows/Optimator was a great trail. We also did that Single track out and back to the lookout before we headed back to camp in Hurkey Creek. I guess the trail does end there where the rocks are, cause we lost it there as well . Here's the spot I'm talking about.

I just added a poll to this thread to get a feel. I know the dates won't accomodate all, but I plan on posting it in a couple weeks and the last 2 weekends are the only 2 that will work for me.
