RSVP'd No: 5
  • Mudman [09-06-2007 01:08 PM] - Work, wish I could go though!
  • Wrecker [09-06-2007 04:35 PM] - Family reunion, but I'd rather be with you guys (sniff sniff)
  • Pugz [09-09-2007 04:50 PM] - I will still be in Ohio, hope there is another newbie ride coming up soon.
  • J_Sims [09-11-2007 10:00 AM] - Well every time you schedule a NEWB ride I have to work
  • OMR [09-11-2007 10:07 AM] - Won't be able to attend as I have church (band) on Sundays. Therefore, little or no riding but plenty of good music!
The No list really bumms me out, I really enjoy riding with everyone on the list...We'll try again next time

Traci, I second that, but it still looks like this ride is shaping up to be a good one.

Exclamation Update

After a few beers and fun last evening at the "Fully Loop" it sounds like Neil and Gene have decided on the route we'll be riding.
We're going to get a bit of everything (Neil or Gene chime in if you want), climbing, singletrack, and some mellow DH.

There will be an "A" group and a "B" group, I think Gene will get to lead the "A" group (let's give him a sweep break - he deserves it ).The "A" group will do some extra credit, quite a bit more climbing and less regrouping. The "B" group will have frequent stops, will regroup often, and will have someone giving pointers on some of the more technical parts of the ride.

I'm looking for a few persons who are familiar with Whiting and would be willing to help run sweep, I will not LEAVE ANYONE BEHIND. Please pm me if your interested?

The weather looks like it's on a cooling trend so the time will not change..

See everyone on Sunday morning.

I will talk to Ko to see if she wants to ride. She's been to Whiting before (and I'm sure she'll remember Mustard!). If we go, I'll be riding the singlespeed, so we will likely be sweeping by default, or be the ones the sweeper is waiting for.

What about me?

Necross we get to ride together - it's going to be fun. I had trouble my first time at Whiting I crashed. The first part was harder for me than Mustard Hill. The first section the terrain changes alot. That messed me up! Going up mustard was okay. I was used to hiking my bike big A hills. I hope I can ride some this time.

It's not that I am sloooow - it's just that I am not in a rush. Plus I waste alot of time. I like talk to strangers on the trail and all kinds of things come up. I think it has to do with my slow riding. People stop to say things like "good job" I get that alot. This happens alot when I am riding uphill. It must be the heavy breathing.

When I stop to catch my breath nice mtnbikers stop to make sure - I am okay.

I've made alot of good freinds because of this - like mtnbikerfred.

Surlygal,
Has inspired me not to be last anymore. Also her concern for the sweepers not always having to sweep. She is right! And so I'll try to improve my ride so I can be the sweeper.

Thumbs up

I'm glad you've been inspired .

My insparation comes from all the women on STR that kick A$$!

We are the STR Dirty Girls (right CC) .

I hope it's a chain reaction, this is a great sport and as many of the recent threads have mentioned more than one positve thing can come out of riding your bike.

Here's to running sweep for other "Newbs" like we once were (Next spring is my personal goal).

I nominate EZZY as a sweeper!! Last night we got a late start but didn't hang around the B-day party too long. I was hammering the climbs in my middle ring and coming back down the hills to ride up again with her, the only problem was I'd turn around expecting her to be near the bottom, and she was almost at the top!!!!

I want to bring my daughter out for her first "big ride" this weekend. I wouldn't consider it if she didn't have someone like Surlygal or Ezzy to ride with.

If there's plans to eat at Wahoos after the ride why not just park there and start from there? Plus there's a Starbucks there that people can make use of while other slow people are showing up late and getting their act together.

Here's a map to Wahoo's
