Default Chino Hills - 3 Bs

Hello,

I am planning to ride Chino Hills over the 3-day weekend. I normally will start from the main entrance to Northridge. A few of us would like to try the 3 Bs and would like to know the quickest way to get to there. The last time we rode the 3 Bs we started it att at mile 18 after climbing Northridge and a few other hills (in the heat of the day). The plan is to get it over with early in the morning. Does anyone know a shorter route to get there? Is it OK to start at Brush Canyon?

Oh, while I am on the subject of Chino Hills, I noticed some trail work on Northridge last week. Lots of deep sand starting just before Sycamore. Does anyone know if they did the same on Southridge? I can do without all the sand.

Thanks!

Teri

The only way I know of getting over the 3 B's is starting from the Chino Hills side off Soquel Canyon. If you park inside by the barn area, just climb up Telegraph and you'll encounter the 3 B's soon enough.

Ann and I rode in from the Brea side just like you did, Up Northridge, down McDermot, down Raptor Ridge, up the 3B's then Bovinian Delight to Southridge and back. That's a pretty good ride to get your legs in shape.

Brush got bulldozed a few years ago. Too bad, it was a nice climb. Supposedly to protect the Golden eagle nesting territory.
They never explained how bikes disturbed the birds, but the bulldozers didn't.
You can either drive or ride in from Soquel, park in the lot and start climbing Telegraph to the Bs (what Sprocket said), or come in from Rimcrest in Yorba Linda. From there I would climb Telegraph, drop down Raptor and then start climbing Telegraph to the Bs.
The Bs suck and Chino always has some sand this time of year.

I live right by the Elinvar/Soquel Cyn entrance. I think the best way would be to ride in from the gate (no parking fee). At the top of fire road that you climb in on from the street, go right through the swinging gate and up to Bane Ridge or Sidewinder. These both turn into fun single track, I prefer Bane Ride, but both are good.

Bane Ridge drops you into the Equestrian Staging Area. From there you can cut across on single track or ride the paved road down the to the ranger station a few hundred yards. Either way, you end up at the bottom of Telegraph lined up to climb the 3Bs.

If you take Sidewinder (less climbing, fast single track descents), it drops you onto a fire road. Go down this fire road, through the ranger camp, and you will end up at a T in the road. To your right at the T you will see the gate for Telegraph.

When I do 3Bs, I climb Southridge and descend Telegraph. I don't do this much anymore since Raptor Ridge singletrack is right there at 4 Corners and much more fun to descend.

What day do you plan to ride the 3Bs?

Thank you all for the information. This is very helpful. I think I would prefer starting at Rimcrest since it’s much closer to home, but will probably start at Soquel canyon and try the single tracks (hopefully riding and not walking). The only reason we are doing the 3 –Bs is to check it off our list (last time we did it we walked up the last part of the 3rd B). We are in better climbing condition now than we were back then. Let’s see if we make it up all the way!

I’ve printed out the info and will share it with the gals I’ll be riding with so we can plan out our route. We will most likely do the ride early Saturday morning.

Thanks!

Last time at CHSP was the first time I was ever able to climb it. When I first started mtb'ing I didn't believe anyone could ride up it. A few people told me it had been done, but for the most part everyone was saying it wasn't possible. One day I went with a friend of mine who was a very strong climber and I watched him do it. I tried for the next 3 years to do it, but that last one always got me. Finally I went with no expectations and just went at it like any other climb and made it. It was and still is a highlight in my mtb'ing adventures.

What day are you riding?

yeah, we are neighbors. I live on Vista Ct.

I ride almost every day, but I have been traveling for work a lot lately and haven't ridden CHSP in a over a week. We should ride together some time. I ride Saturday mornings, Sunday evenings/afternoons, and most weekedays around 5:30 pm. PM me if you want to ride together. There are so many trails, I never have the same route twice.

I've also come close to cleaning the 3 B's quite a few times but the last B just killed me. However, last year, we started training for CC and I think climbing the Pain Divide all winter has made me stronger. We were riding Chino Hills a couple of months ago and I cleaned the 3 B's without trying. Ann came really close to cleaning it but there was a sandy section that she got stuck in. I bet she can do it now on the Mad though.

Hello,

Thanks so much for the info on CH and your experience with 3Bs. This was my first post on the forum. Met someone at Fulerton Loop who told me about the forum.

I admire your perseverance! Three-years is a very long time. I am happy to hear you finally made it up. I can only imagine your feeling of accomplishment. I’ve only tried it once and at the time I had already made up my mind I was going to walk it (I really didn’t want to do it). This time I will be more optimistic. If I make it great, if not, perhaps another try.

The plan now is to ride on Saturday and to start at Soquel Canyon entrance (by the gate if we find it). We will do Bane ridge to the equestrian center and make our way to Telegraph road for the 3-Bs. From there we will go to four corners, Bovinia, Southridge, Diemer, Telegraph back to Four Corners, Raptor Ridge back to Bane Canyon. We have the tendency to switch things around depending how we are feeling, but we start with a plan. We will most likely start around 7:00 am just because it’s suppose to be really warm.

Anyone (keep in mind this ride requires a great amount of endurance due to mileage and hills) is welcome to join us . We do ride at a casual pace through the technical stuff (casual=some walking if necessary). We are actually pretty OK with the hills.

Teri
