RR: Gooseberry Mesa Day 2
Well after riding up amongst the mountains yesterday...we decided to bear the heat and ride Gooseberry Mesa today. Temps have been pushing 100-105 the last week or so. The threat of thunderstorms meant that this might turn into an adventure. Well the rain stayed away, but the clouds were in and out all morning. This kept the temps cool to comfortable for the majority of the ride. By the time we were finished, it was getting warm.
Normally when we ride out here...we have the place to ourselves for the most part. Today was no exception. Ran across only 3 other riders out on the trail today. There was a very large group just starting as we finished our ride. We started out on White Trail to South Rim out to the point. We returned on South Rim and picked up Hidden Canyon before taking the fireroad back to the car. Suzanne was beyond done, so we had enough. You forget how hard it is to ride out here. There is hardly any elevation gain, but it feels like you climbed a ton. Short little steps up begin to take their toll pretty quick. On to the pics: Our destination....  Getting there....  Almost there....  Soon we will be on the point....  This is what we are riding...  Very nice sunrise this morning....  Before the ride.....  Yeah....finally on the trail.....follow the white dots...   Enjoying the views and temps....  Finally riding......   Don't loose the white dots.... Odd shapes and formations abound.....  AHHHHH!!! She nearly cut my head off....  Suzanne splitting some trees....  Spookydave....this one is for you....from Suzanne   One of the many step-ups we would encounter today...  Still going...... More ridin'..............
 Lots of fun out there....  Keep on moving.......  Still following the white dots......  Back and forth...up and down.....  I thought the moon was made of cheese???  How do we get from point A to point B???  So they say there is a trail out there......  Made it to the first outlook.....  Suzanne enjoying the views.....  Me taking in the views as well.....  My nemesis in the past.....  Looking good..........so far......  Just about there.....unfortunately I dabbed just after the pic......  The views never get old.....  Storm clouds on the horizon.... Starting the climb.....
 Around the switchback.....  Made the first part.....  Getting ready for the hard part......  Setting up........  Damn.....wrong gear......  On the trail again....  Too quick for the camera ......again....  The trail on the edge......  Suzanne riding the edge.....  Tough sandy approach......  Blew it.....a little too sandy to get a good run at....  Out on the point....  We were over there a little while ago....  Down below......  Really love the views....  Cliff side.....  Straight down from the point....  Suzanne shows she is ready to ride....  We are supposed to ride in St. George tomorrow, but rain is expected tonight.....so that might cancel tomorrows ride. |

Great RR. I rode there earlier this summer with similar temps. It was my first time and w/ no one to ride with it was a little nerve racking. It was a great ride though. Would like to do it again. The pics were great, brought back some summer memories as I head back to work tomorrow (teacher).

It's really great sometimes just to ride with your lady... you may not know it at the time but it makes it a very special time just between the two of you...

You guys rock I cant wait to get better . I want to get a group together and go there. I was out that way on a Chumba Sales trip but never go to ride.
After interbike I am planning on a road trip. I will post it so we can get more people going. Great RR great pics. See ya later Jason |
