For those who have expressed intrest in doing this route again, and for those that couldn't make the first ride, here is your opportunity to get in on this great ride.
The route will be the same as the original route. The staging area is the same as the original staging area The distance is the same as the original distance. The pace will be the same as the original pace It would be nice to have at least one other person (besides me) who knows the route sign up so that one can sweep and on can lead, otherwise we will have to go at the slowest person's pace No drop rule is in effect. The ride starts out in O'Neill. We will do a short single track climb to the trail above the park, then we will turn onto Antonio Pkwy to Tijeras Creek trail where we will climb again and ride along the ridge, continue along the ridge till we get to some rolling single track. Out onto Oso Pkwy and connect to the Waterwork Single track trail, head back on Arroyo Trabuco Through the Jungle single track and back to O'Neill Park. Ride distance is about 17 miles. When: Sept 3, meet @ 7am, Ride @ 7:30 Where: O'Neill Park's TijerasCreek, Waterworks, Arroyo/Trabuco Trails Staging: O'Neill Park Day use area, where the Warriors Society hold the award ceremonies for the CC/VQ, Traverse, Toad Festivals Here is 1 variation of the loop: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=12 Here's another variation: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=457 1 Here's the link to the location: http://www.ocparks.com/oneillpark/default.asp?Show =LocationHours From 5 Fwy - exit at El Toro Road, head north towards mountains (Lake Forest), make right on Live Oak Canyon Road (Cooks Corner) and we are on the right hand side 3 miles up the road. From North OC - Take the 55 fwy, get off Chapman Ave, head south towards mountains and continue on Chapman, it will turn into Santiago Canyon Road. Stay on Santiago Canyon Road for about 12 miles, make a left on Live Oak Canyon Road (Cooks Corner), we are on the right hand side 3 miles up the road. When you enter the gate to the park, turn right ands follow the road around to the gravel parking area on the right. We will leave no one behind! Hope to you all out there ![]() *Meet at O'Neill Park at 8am. We will start the ride at 8:30. *Parking is $5.00 on weekends at O'Neill. *No alcoholic beverages are permitted in the park (so keep it on the DL, suckas) |

Just thought I'd bump this thread back to the top of the list so people would see it.

But if you insist, you can still do the ride with a couple people.

As I mentioned in the other ride comments, I was playing around at a jump too long, and so I was almost the last one to leave that area. Then I was at a water crossing waiting for my gf to go for it. Then I crossed and I had a flat. I was DFL (dead F'ing last).
By a long ways. Who cares? Gene did...he still waited for me. And he didn't seem to mind. We cruised DFL for a long time until we caught some people who didn't seem to know which direction to go on the trail. So basically, Gene, my gf, myself, and a couple others were last for a good portion of the ride. It doesn't matter a bit. Nonetheless, it still allowed for social time - and that's a major reason we do these rides, right? It's not a race. Regardless, some people will arrive at the cars before others, and some people will arrive later. So what. No big deal. You can socialize in the parking lot or on the trail - it doesn't matter. Brian, just like the Blackstar ride that you did, no one cares who is the last one up (or back) - just as long as you are riding and having fun. Besides, you won't get any faster or better unless you ride. Sorry to say this in public, but try to find excuses to ride instead of excuses not to ride. By the way, there is a simple trick to keeping up on faster group rides: Always start up front. Always, always, always. This can give you several minutes at each stopping point, instead of waiting for others to go. I remember one stopping point where we had to go down a steep hill. We all stopped to regroup, but after that, it was probably 15 minutes between the time the first person started and the last person. If the slowest person started first, they'd have a 15 minute lead on being DFL - that's a lot! You may get passed, which is no big deal, but it still keeps you with the group. Also, you get a lot less dust. I suggested that to Ko, and as long as she wasn't waiting for me, it really helped her stay with the pack. Unfortunately, waiting for me put her to the rear of the pack a little too often.

I still remember the days when I HAD to walk EVERY single hill on the Fully Loop (back in '94). I didn't believe people actually rode some of those hills on mountain bikes until I saw people do it. I'm a lot fatter today and weigh a hell of a lot more (at least 40-50 pounds, I'd guess...oh how depressing!...), but because of constantly riding, the hills are easy (although I won't be saying that on DH night).
