Default CORBA Trail Maintenance, ride and campout on the Ken Burton Trail

Where: Located in the Angeles National Forest above Pasadena and built in 1992 by the Mount Wilson Bicycling Association the trail runs 2.2 miles from near the top of Brown Mountain to the Gabrielino Trail near Oakwild Campground.

What: We will be reconstructing the switchbacks at the bottom of the trail and doing brushwork on the bottom ½ mile of the trail.

Who: CORBA is a Mountain Bike advocacy organization however; all trail users are welcome and encouraged to come out to this event! All tools will be provided by CORBA!

Details: We will drive to the top of Brown Mountain Road or you can ride in if you prefer on Saturday morning. We will then ride or hike down the trail 1.5 miles to where the work will begin. We will campout on Saturday night at Oakwild campground. The CORBA Trail Crew has four B.O.B Trailers to carry tools and camping gear down to the campground. Camping is optional. If you choose not to camp you could head out Saturday after the workday. CORBA will provide dinner on Saturday night and breakfast for Sunday morning.

Directions: We will meet at Millard Campground Parking lot at 7:45 am Saturday 9/29. To get there: exit Lincoln from the 210 freeway and head north make a right on Loma Alta the flashing yellow light is Chaney, make a left on Chaney and take that all the way to the parking lot at the end of the road.

R.S.V.P. If you plan on attending please R.S.V.P. to trailwork@corbamtb.com

Hans, I don't own any light camping gear for a over-night packin. How early is dinner? Enough time to ride the Arroyo out?

Well we would probably eat around 5:00 pm. By the end of september it will be dark before 7:00 especially in that canyon. Do you have a bike light?

FYI, All you would really need is a sleeping bag and pad. I could loan you a pad and you can rent a sleeping bag at sports chalet for cheap.

Thinking a day ride and trail help. I have a light but I am still looking for a better one. Hope the new LED's are good, so far...not!

Thank you all for making the trails rideable. Without you guys there would be no MTBiking. I wish I could help, but still healing a torn ligament in my shoulder.

I participated in the Chantry/Mt. Zion maintenance earlier this year. Before the maintenance, the ride was doable with a bit of hike-a-bike, yucca and brush which made it hard to keep the flow going on the tough Zion climb. Now it is almost all rideable(not easy), but mostly rideable. This is now a great local loop.

Hopefully after this weekend more attention will be focused on the Gabrielino. With a coordinated effort of 15 to 20 people working on the gab we could do a lot of good. Maybe we could send a scout party with GPS and digital camera to identify areas for the next CORBA trail maintenance on the GAB.

This trail maintenance is now scheduled for Saturday only!
