Default Saturday 8/25 early training sufferfest

Justin and I will be getting up early Saturday morning for a nice training ride / sufferfest.

Not set on a start time yet.

We'll be parking at the bottom of Indian Truck Trail, climbing up, heading left on Main Divide, descending Trabuco, climbing up Holy Jim, then heading back across Main Divide and down ITT to the cars.

Geoladders info: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=2963

31.2mi~, almost 7000ft of climbing. It took us around 7 hours to complete when we first did it in January.

Please bring plenty of water, as there aren't any places to refill unless you bring a water purifier and there's water in any of the HJ creek crossings (doubtful there's much). Also plenty of food, tubes, etc.

This isn't a social paced ride. It'll be as race-pace as *I* can go, and I think we'll probably avg around 6MPH over the day.

Anyone that can finish the route is more than welcome to go. If there are varying speeds we'll wait up at trail intersections.

We will probably stop for a short break at the top of ITT. Another short break at the top of Trabuco. Some food at the bottom of Holy Jim. Another short break at the top of HJ.

I'm not as fast as some of you crazy fast beeshes, so don't hesistate to go over that

It's a long hard ride. Trabuco is a great descent, and Holy Jim can be fun. At least starting at ITT the worst of the climbing will be over early, and only the climb up HJ will be remaining for later in the day.

Lots of exposed trail (to the sun). If the temps I saw this morning locally continue, I'm hoping it's in the high 80s.

Good early start to VQ training!

Default What??????

Allison... have you been taking crazy pills young female grasshopper?... did you hit your head while riding BB this weekend? It's going to be sucky HOT. It's been running in the 90's up there after 10 am and the humidity is up as well!

Be reasonable, come join Gene's ride at Trabuco Arroyo... more riding in the trees = shady = cool, water crossings, good conversation and beer & food afterwards. Great over the handlebars shots... what more could you ask for?

Why suffer when you can have fun? VQ/CC is still a long ways off!

See the tandem thread... Justin is a nut case. If you can convince him, I'm in! He is under the impression that he needs me to ride 35 miles and climb 7000ft on Saturday because he's got family plans on Sunday and doesn't want to be sweaty and dirty.

He's a lost cause, I'm afraid.

Come to your senses, man! Your friends want you & Allison to come ride with us on this cool (temps) social STR ride. Remember, that man does not live by mileage alone...

Come for the ride... come for the memories... hell, come for the beer... but come!

I warned you... If all else fails and it's too horrid when we reach Main Divide we'll just climb up, do UHJ and come back down.

Justin's response would be something like, "It's called death."

How about a nice day out at a museum or some clothes shopping? (And no that doesnt mean your local Performance bike shop although it fits into both categories)

Here's something to consider about weight: Your muscles naurally adapt to carry your mass - so clearly you're jsut eating more pies than everyone else on an ever increasing scale and doing less real exercise. You can use some of my old Crossmax SL spokes to wire your jaw shut if you want

Yeah, I want you to think about that next Sat when you're climbing up on Pain Divide, the sun is baking down on your helmet slowly frying your brains, your muscles are melting and your tongue is hanging out of your mouth in search of a cold brew... while we, one the other hand, are on the whimpy "newby ride" and are gliding through the quiet cool trees, caressed by soft breezes and good conversation... all headed down the sweet single track towards cold glasses of ice cold foamy beer.

Afterall, Guiness is sooo much better in an ice cold mug! Ahhhhhhhhh!

It's not too late.... and we will think no less of you guys, if you decide to join us for the ride...

Ya, but someone's mellow easy Tues evening ride can be someone else's epic, especially for a newb . But in all seriousness. Wish we could talk you out of it. I'm anxious to get training for the VQ just as much as the next person.

Tim(M210) was there with us 2 weeks ago and went again last weekend. He said it was way hotter than it was when we went up. The Local temp for this weekend in Trabuco Canyon is going to be sunny 86 deg down below. Add 10-15 deg with relatively no breeze and it'll be a scorcher up there on MD. I used all 100 oz of my water plus a bottle of cytomax and all we did was start at the wash, rode in the 4 miles, climb Lower HJ, took MD to Upper HJ and descended both and back out towards the wash area. You guys are going much farther and past high noon.

Bring lots of water, as much as you can carry. Still wish you would reconsider, but if you're going> the conditions on upper and lower HJ is not bad considering the lack of rain. It was really warm though there, it was a good thing we were on our way down.

"Please bring plenty of water, as there aren't any places to refill unless you bring a water purifier and there's water in any of the HJ creek crossings (doubtful there's much)".

2 weeks ago when I rode up and down Holy Jim, all creeks totally dried up.
