how do the climbs compare to Mathis (aliso), Black star (irvine) or Willow (laguna park? I love to suffer but I'd like to know how much suffer we talking about on the climbs. Let me know, thanks!

Yeah... I really want to put it out there that this ride is not like riding all of those together. Granted, Mathis is steep and longish, but Main Divide is on another scale.

Blackstar is actually a good climb. Maybe similar to ITT, but once you get passed ITT you still have another 4400ft of climbing and 24 miles.

For serious masochists only

If anyone posts a Holy Jim - Trabuco ride 29er, definitely hit that up before trying this.

  • Green Nomad [08-21-2007 06:58 PM] - I'll be joining, but it all depends on the start time and if I can get my gear together (just moved) and my granny bike up and running... If anyone wants to carpool from the Irvine area let me know... Allison/Mech, what exit would I take off the 15?

Click on Trailhead "Find".

I think we're starting at 5:30 to try to beat some of the heat! Another option is to start at the turn out right before Blue Jay campground and you could meet us at the top of Trabuco probably a few hours later. Mebbe around 7:30-8?

Uh, no. We're leaving at 5:30. I'll be taking a gorilla pod self-portrait shot of us leaving the truck on the fire road at 5:30.

If we leave any later we'll end up holding up the newbs, and that isn't cool.

Green Nomad - how fast do you climb??

Jose - you poser! You know you want to go!!

Sweet. Well, since we're starting so early, don't have a late night, eh? You can drink PLENTY after the ride on Sat night

You probably are faster than me, so get used to waiting or you can carry my camera and get photos

Also, um, we sort of changed the plan to meet up with the newb ride happening at O'Neill park at 8:30. So, we're gonna do 17 miles with those peeps, fill up our Camelbaks, then head back over to climb up WHT. If you've never done it, trust me, you'll hate it! And us for taking you up it. I hated myself last time for agreeing to go up it. However, we're gonna stash drinks there on our way across to Trabuco, and it's about 1/4 as long as Holy Jim. But, it takes a bit of riding to get back over to it

I'm starting to get nervous... my Path jersey hasn't showed up yet.

Sometimes UPS shows up after 6.

No Path jersey for me..

This is gonna be an all day thing, so hope you don't have to be anywhere. We should be there before 5:30. Gonna ride as soon as there's enough light.

Yeah, dude, I actually said on the way home that it's days like today that really make you appreciate the simple things in life: a full stomach, and a shower. That's really what it is all about.

a cold beer!
a burrito at chipotle!
sitting down (not on a bike seat)!
a shower!
sleep! (although i am still too wound up and my legs hurt too bad to sleep)

it really wasn't so bad of a ride. Gene hooked us up. it would have hurt a lot more without the ride up the road.

pain is a great thing. it cleanses and reminds you that you are alive!
